Ran across this interesting design. Closed loop cooling means that it does not suck any water in. Has a coolant tank and uses regular old 50/50 mix like a car.

They are highly modified Tohatsu outboards and come in both a saltwater or "mud" version with a long-tail in 40/50/60 hp. From what I can tell, they seem to start at about $14,000. And while Tohatsu engines are solid, that's a lot of coin for one, even it is highly modified.

That said, the ability to run extremely shallow (or through absolute muck) without worrying about clogging an intake or killing an impeller is an interesting feature and might just be worth it for some specific users. Not sure it's anything I'd be interested in, even if I had a few extra zero on the good side of my paycheck.

Tohatsu makes great motors. Had one on the 16 ft Klamath that I gifted to my son. Still running strong. With a coolant tank, they probably will be a lot heavier.

Oh, I have nothing against Tohatsu. It's just that a 50hp stock Tohatsu is like $6k. I'm not sure that I could find $8k more of value in the sealed coolant system.

But I'm not the target market here, obviously.
