Abdomen: Vevus body quill
Thorax: olive ice dub

If anyone knows how to tighten the ice dub on the thorax, I would appreciate the advice. I’m using a dubbing loop with 8/0 thread.

A little late to the party here, but when I want a tight body with difficult to dib materials, ice dub, seal,... I wax my thread, twist dubbing in the thread, it doesn't have to be perfect, just proportionally even. Double the thread over, and spin the loop.

Me too, it used to be a simple Woolley Worm. Scottp keeps knocking homeruns with his carp flies.

Eakins’ HVRT (variation)

Can’t beat a hare’s ear for pretty much anything and this carp version looked neat. A few minor changes to the original; here’s a video if you’re interested (a bit too long for such a basic fly though, I think).

Shaded Pupa from Nick Thomas. Nick is contributor to Fly Fishing & Fly Tying magazine in UK. Posted some pupas in the latest issue today. I made one with bead and one without. His pupa flies are so great. He is mostly using glass beads.

A version of this little fly got me a hookup on a really hot fish the other day under bright skies and fairly clear water. The pattern was just electric in the water, I lost the fish but it was a fun one.
