Going to be in Riviera Maya Mexico for Xmas and was hoping to get out with a guide for at least 1 day and possibly some DIY.

What area are you staying in? If closer to Cancun you can fish Isla Blanca to the north. Guides will often pick you up at your hotel or have you taxi to a meeting point. If staying to the south of Playa del Carmen you can do a day trip to Ascension Bay (Yellow Dog can set this up). Or take the Ferry from PDC to Cozumel and fish the northern lagoons. If you google any of these ideas you should find more information. I have only done it guided. Can't help you with DIY.

Chief's suggestion is good. If you're near Cancun, Enrico will pick you up at your hotel to fish north of town. To the south, I've stayed at Casa Chaac out at Punta Allen, which is too far to drive for a day trip. DIY is sorta' doable along the road from Tulum to Punta Allen; look for flats in the vicinity of the bridge. We did that once, using small inflatables to cross the lagoon onto the flats area, but last time I was there, there were five crocodiles sunning on a sand bar near the bridge. I wouldn't have felt comfortable wading or crossing the lagoon that day.
