Not sure yet. Maybe king or dungess crab.
Pickled Herring for sure will be on the menu.
Always have it for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

If ya want to catch a stonedfish, just troll a Pickled Herring fly through the ditch in front of his house...
🤣
That stuff is bad news...

Our family makes a traditional German dinner of sauerbraten, kartoffel pfannkuchen (potato pancakes), and red cabbage. The sauerbraten marinates for three days before cooking and we make the gravy from the marinade. The tradition started with my grandmother and continues on. My mom was an excellent cook and made many great Christmas memories. She is retired from cooking now. These days, I’m in charge of it and make the potato pancakes ahead of time. They freeze well. My wife is of Italian heritage and she makes excellent biscotti. This year, we are joining our son in San Diego as he prepares for his next deployment with the Navy. Looking forward to some nice weather, although it will be raining for the first part of our trip. No idea what we will do for Christmas dinner this year.
Mark - I had to Google Sauerbraten and now I want to eat it! Best wishes to you and your family and thanks to your son and his service. /Pat

Strictly fish here in Central Italy, from the starter to the pasta to the main and all else in between.

My duty over the last 15 years has been to choose, behead, cut up, and roast to perfection, an eel, rigorously live before prep, usually between 3-4 lbs, bigger if I can find one, which is rare, sadly.

Merry Christmas all,
Kenneth
Is that a freshwater eel?...I'd like to see a pic of the eel and finished dish...

For decades it had been bbq country pork style ribs on Xmas Eve followed by Ham Xmas day. But now that some family members are no longer with us or unable to attend this will be the first year of beef tenderloin roast, wild sockeye salmon for the non beef eaters and will start with Dungeness crab cakes (probably get cakes at Town and Country, Shoreline) for Xmas eve and Xmas day will be brunch all day with frittata, quiche, Hawaiian ham/cheese sliders, assorted fruits, strawberry-rhubarb cobbler, blueberry buckle cake, etc. an all day feast wearing sweat pants. 😉

Oh and homemade eggnog lattes !!!
You had me at eggnog!! And everything else sounds great!! My middle initial is E.. it should stand for eggnog!! LOL!

I usually make eggnog from a family recipe at Thanksgiving and drink it at Christmas, but I was too busy/lazy this year. This is not a bad store bought option (needs extra booze, though):

Tom and Jerry’s and Hot Butter Rums were always big around our household during the holidays.
Harvey’s butter rum batter is made in Bremerton.

I have some eggnog from Smith Brothers that is pretty good! And some from Tommy who owns the Ballard Cut in Ballard! Plus another homemade one from the Cut another friend is going to give me.. I just leave it in the fridge and can drink it anytime.

I was going to try Alton Browns recipe or the Sun Liquor one, but am set for quite a while with eggnog for now!!

I have been informed that we are NOT having turkey. On Christmas Eve it will be seafood: BBQ salmon, crab cakes, and steamer clams. I may need to pick up some special wine to go with that this week. On Christmas Day we're having prime rib, so this should be a nice holiday variety.

Pick up a nice Sauvingon Blanc, I like New Zealand ones for Christmas Eve, and some red and hearty for Christmas day!! Cab or Syrahs are always my first choice!! Sounds delicious!

May I suggest a nice box of chardonnay for the 24th ?
Perhaps on the 25th a nice red, perhaps a Mencia with a few years on it.
😁

Do you indicator fish for streamer clams?

You may suggest anything you want. However, Mrs. Salmo has informed me that the box chard just isn't cutting it lately. So I'll be in the wine aisle at the market with my 6-pack bag (for the 10% discount). For red, I've been saving some Benziger Tribute for a few years and have several to choose from now. It is hearty and goes well with beef.

I love clams but have never been fortunate enough to enjoy "streamer clams". Are those clams that are consumed virtually or simply clams harvested by woolybugger?
