College Football 2023

It will be interesting to see how the FSU - Georgia game plays out. It’s almost as if it was set up to show they made the right choice by excluding FSU if they lose to Georgia. They’ll have their second string QB back. My concern is will some of their stud defensive players opt out. They were 14th in total defense and they can play with anyone. The other concern is how pumped they’ll be after getting screwed. I guess the same could be said for Georgia. After winning two consecutive national championship, the Orange Bowl is likely a major let down.
As @Porter2 said, it’s interesting how they used the QB situation again FSU but didn’t against Ohio State in past selections.
Still mind boggling to me. Even with the new 12 team format next year, some worthy team is likely to get screwed with the new precedents the selection committee set this year.

Imagine if FSU decided to protest by not showing up for the game and forfeiting…that would be interesting…

Can't wait until FSU shows up with all of their players and then gets spanked by Georgia's second stringers....seriously, I can't wait. I mean, let's all revisit this outrage part of this thread afterwards regardless of the outcome. I will regardless. Will you?

Yep, I’ll be here and regardless of the game outcome will still think FSU got screwed by the committee.

That's why I will always enjoy what you post here! You're fuckin' genuine & don't shy away from your opinions (however wrong they may be......kidding! mostly). ehhhh, regardless though, I'm gonna be watching.....

although, if fishing conditions are great......may have to check in when I can. lol

It might be FSU 2nd stringers vs Georgia 2nd stringers at this point. We'll see. I won't be surprised. Might break the internet. Haha!

I'll be here. :) Point remains the same whether they beat Georgia or not.

How about some CFB history. Richard Sherman spoke about this today.
The 2014 OSU team was 11-1 and ranked #5 when they won the Big10 championship. They lost to unranked VT and needed OT to beat unranked Penn State earlier that season. They won that Big 10 championship 59-0 over #13 Wisconsin with their 3rd string QB. Typical Big 10 stinker by the Badges.
They then won the whole damn thing with him! Beat #1 Bama and then #2 Oregon. What an incredible story!
Was that team better than FSU? On paper...no. Who knows...
The other team that year? An undefeated FSU team that lost to the Ducks in the semis. At least they got to play.

2023 FSU won the ACC championship, already ranked #4 and unbeaten, and doesn't get a shot to repeat what OSU did. It's nuts man.

well, 59-0 (with that third stringer) is a touch different than 16-6 over a mediocre team (at best) in the conference championship games...not really apples to apples, imo.

I totally get the outrage (to some extent....at least from FSU fans), then again, I DO think they got the best 4 teams in the final 4 (and I can't stand Alabama), which is what they're supposed to do (regardless of how you feel about their methods).

now watch, I'll be the sucker and all of the playoff games will be blowouts. Actually, I'd find that pretty funny...what can I say, I've got a weird sense of humor.

We haven't really even discussed what's gonna bring in the most money yet (at least in my lazy reading of this entire thread)....which is also along the lines of who they chose.

🍻

The Committee was in a no-win position - their mission statement is to choose the 4 best teams, not the 4 teams with the best records - I think one is hard pressed to argue FSU is better than either Alabama or Texas. As for the FSU statement, nonsense (last night's win was hardly "dominant"), the playoffs expand next year, all this will be forgotten and moot.

Edit: I also find it quite humorous that all those who were clamoring for chaos (ie, wins and losses like occurred) are now screaming about the injustice of it all).

I'll be rooting for the Huskies

(Go Chiefs!!!!)
I don't agree, they could have said "An undefeated Power 5 conference champ gets the nod over a one loss power 5 conference champ", but they didn't have the balls. Those young men from FSU got totally screwed, they did everything they were suppose to do, they won every game and their conference championship. Nick Saban and the other folks whining about the S.E.C. needing to be represented is HORSE SHIT. Do you think Oregon would have gotten in if they won the P.A.C. 12 and everything played out the same, I highly doubt it.

Louisville really wasn’t mediocre though. They ended up 10-3 and had the 16th rank defense and 44th rank offense in the country, but FSU still found a way to beat them with their 3rd string QB and while only generating 55 yards in passing offense. They did rush for 160+ yards.
FSU’s is 14th ranked in total defense and stuffed Louisville, holding them to 188 total yards yet the committee elected to overlook that performance. Defense wins championships……
Oh, and FSU got screwed. 😉😂

I am in no way disagreeing with you, I have no dog in this fight; however, there would have been just as much outrage (more?) had either Texas or Alabama been left out. I'm not saying the Committee did it right or wrong, just that they were in a no win situation - this is the problem any "Selection Committee" will face - it is the nature of the beast.

^^^^
Yes, in the home of the former NFL Champions and current cellar dwelling New England Patriots.
That being said Belichik has always had deep respect for the Naval Academy, West Point, Air Force Academy, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine Academies.
Go Army!

I think for the most part, everyone expected Texas to get in once Georgia lost, especially since they beat Alabama.
Leaving out a undefeated conference champion and moving a team from 8th to 4th had never been done before.
We’ll just call that the “SEC precedent“ that the committee has now set. They just couldn’t have a CFP playoff without a SEC team, so they made it happen at FSU’s expense. Personally, I would have enjoyed the outrage if no SEC team was included. 😉

I understand, it just bothers me that the folks a FSU get left out for a team that is there nearly every year. We all want to see the best match ups, but at what cost? College football has gone the way of most things in our society, money talks, integrity walks.

Great tradition/rivalry in that game.

My CWU Wildcats had a good run winning two playoff games in a real playoff format but the 3rd round trip to Colorado they fell silent on the field against the School of Mimes and were eliminated.

I have no idea why type face changed. 🧐

Long time peeve of mine is how little the schedule that the various leagues play in determining the "most worthy" teams.

Not counting the league championship games this the final teams in consideration played the following:
Michigan - 9 league games and a non league schedule that included Eastern Carolina (American conference), UNLV (mountain west), Bowling Green (MAC)
UW - 9 league games and Boise St (Mt west), Tulsa (American), and Michigan St (Big 10)
Texas - 9 league games and Rice (American), Alabama (SEC), Wyoming (Mt west)
Alabama - 8 league games and middle Tennesse (CUSA), Texas (Big 12), So Florida (American) and Chattanooga (southern)
FSU - 8 league games and LSU (Sec) So. Mississippi (Sunbolt), N. Alabama (UAC), Florida (Sec).

In today's college football world and these larger leagues you would think they would be "encouraged" to schedule the same number of league games and that the big 5 teams be "encouraged" to schedule other big 5 teams in their non-conference games.

Of the supposed top five 3 teams played 9 league games and the other 2 played 8.

3 of teams played 10 games against big 5 teams, the other 2 played 9 games against big 5 teams.

In selection of the best teams how they did against other big 5 teams should be considered in close calls. The winners in such approach would be the college football fans and the quality of the games they get to see.

To the Alabama/FSU discussion - FSU went out and played 10 Big 5 teams (including 2 teams) winning 10 while Alabama played only 9 an winning only 8 against big 5 teams.

Maybe this is why the NCAA suggested new schools can pay athletes / NIL rules earlier this week.
