It really chaps my hide when I read their reports , nothing but inaccurate reports and out right fibs. Springers still in the Sandy ? No ! It is over for that except for some boots . They are trying to put lipstick on a pig . It is still a pig. Serenity now !

Not trying to defend the inaccuracies but at least Oregon makes an attempt to provide information to anglers. I'm not sure about other states but California does not. I find the reports for the NW Zone generally aren't horribly inaccurate if updated regularly. It may depend on how diligent local staff is about providing information.

I remember as a kid 30 years ago reading the reports and realizing they are outdated and inaccurate. Hardly new.

Speaking of outdated info, anyone remember Fishing and Hunting News from back in the day? That publication used to crack me up. Nothing like having a picture of someone holding a winter steelhead…..in the July issue.
The article headlines were pretty funny as well. “Silvers slap spoons in Satsop”.
More like Fishing and Hunting Lies.

I think it's pretty well known that these reports are of dubious value to a serious fisherman. Sort of like calling a ski area for their daily snow report. It's always "powder and packed powder" when there hasn't been new snow for a week.

Doesn't seem like anything worth getting worked up over. Just don't read them.

They posted one of my duck hunting spots once many years ago. I was pissed until I read the article and realized they used a map from 1950 so the blind locations were not accurate at all since it was a river delta that changed drastically every few years...

I'll give a little defense of this sort of thing. Given the lead times for print magazines, you would either have to have out of date stories (like that one), or hold it until the next winter season. Given how quickly fishing regs change, you could have ended up paying for a story, sitting on it for 9 months, and then have the river the story was based on be closed for low returns or something. Making the story useless.

Or they were just idiots, I admit I didn't read that mag much.

Used to love reading "Field & Stream" and "Outdoor Life" back in the 80's and daydream about everything from heaving giant deer-hair frog patterns at "MONSTER Texas Largemouth!!!" to crawling up to a placid chalk-stream in England on my hands and knees and pitching size 22 dries to impossibly sophisticated trout....

They should start to trickle in soon though, a few already showing up at some of the lower river plunking bars...and a report of a sea liced 10 pounder from Cletus's Backwood Bakery and Bud Shop on lower Bullshit Creek last week.

Considering they got their reports from resorts at the fisheries and nearby sporting good stores, I remember that the worst report on fishing was "fair".

I've been fishing a very long time and I know the fishing can be downright terrible and not "fair" at the worst. But when you're trying to con someone to spend money at your establishment, you don't want to turn them away by telling the truth.

I never pay any attention to the ODF&W fishing reports. They are so short staffed its probably someone in the office making calls and writing up the reports with the least amount of effort possible.

Short staffed ? Since there are less and less fish around for them to " manage " there should be lay offs just like any other business.
