Prepare for the influx of dirtbags!

My angling life began as dirt-baggery. When I learned how to cast a fly rod I decided to become a conservationist and save earth worms from drowning. Although it's possible to catch salmon on flies, I relapse from time to time to drag dead herring around on hooks in places that aren't suitable for fly fishing, like the Columbia River near B-10 and in Grays Harbor.

I’m a dirtbag now? That’s no way to treat the new kids.

I still think a live grasshopper on a tiny gold hook kicking on the surface is the most surefire way to catch a trout.
I'll challenge that with my marshmallow and worm on a slip sinker rigs. Gets a lot of eatin' fish!

Our dirtbag trout set-up was a marshmallow, chuck of worm tipped with a single red Pautzke Ball O’ Fire egg. Killed a lot of trout with that combo.

It's all fishing - well, I draw the line at drift nets. Glad to have everyone here. I've learned a ton by listening to folks using different methods, and I love using my bobber rod drifting between runs on our steelhead rivers.

once I adopted medium spin gear and the secret weapon, my steelhead count went way up each year, just by properly steering that Thill float down glides either too deep wade or too overhung to flyfish...the clipped became delicious filets, the unclipped went upstream

Some of us were fly-only guys who then went to gear fishing.

Not sure who, though.

I blame and thank Evan..... It all depends on what your intention is, (despite trying) I struggled to have any consistent success on Oregon/WA salmon with flies. The right place and time and its downright fun as all getout!

I love cold cheap beer, I love tipple IPA's, I enjoy both for different reasons, just don't confuse one for the other and align goals/expectations.

I just can’t wait until these things start hatching! They’re like cicadas, right? Gonna. be. epic.

Love it. Welcome aboard all. Plenty of fellow dirt bags to be found on this here fly flinging forum, myself included.
And for all you new guys here, Nick is a legit upper crust tuna charter captain. If you are ever pondering a tuna trip on a six pack, fly rod or conventional, he should be high up on your list.
