No decent pics, but last time I was at this (Very Popular) spot, there were several Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers doing the same thing; flying sorties on Caddis and small Stoneflies. That was unexpected behavior.
And yes, Kildeer eggs. I felt bad about trespassing on their territory.
I've Lewis' woodpeckers do the same thing.
@clarkman and I are in Loreto, Baja. It’s bird central here. I’ve added to my life list. Magnificent frigatebirds, blue footed and brown boobies, least storm petrel, and that yellow crowned night heron.
Fishing is good
