Lake at the top of White Pass

Fished a well-known lake this week for a couple of days. Wasn’t sure the USFS campgrounds were open in the area, the internet indicated that they weren’t. You can believe everything on the internet, right? So I reserved a campsite at the Silver Beach Resort. Nice, but expensive and not necessary because the campgrounds along Highway 12 were open. Oh well, having shore power and the campsite were nice. It rained Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and there were some nice rainbows over Rimrock Lake. No rainbows, but plenty of healthy brook trout from the lake at the top of the pass. Ran into the White Pass employee in charge of opening the gate. I walked in both days, but he said that the access should be open as soon as they dump some gravel at the launch which eroded from the spring snowmelt. Once the gate is unlocked, the lake will be stocked by WDFW. It will be a bit longer before the campground is open. An Olive Willy, Vampire Leach (thanks @Buzzy), and T-Water Boatman (thanks @Starman77) were the successful flies. A lot of tiny midges on Wednesday but no significant rises and slow fishing with chironomids. The military was active with helicopters flying low to the deck and Navy jets overhead. It was a good trip and time to leave this morning as everything was filling up today as I was heading home. Looking forward to fishing the lake when it is stocked. Well done, Mark! The last time my wife and I drove over White Pass, I thought I saw two Warthogs over the reservoir; they sure looked like the old tank busters to me. Glad you had a good trip. (How were the mosquitoes?)
