2023 Garden Thread

Fun isn’t it πŸ˜€
Lots of plant nuts around here
I think the chicks dig it
Like cooking
Honestly I think gardening is #1 on my hobby list, fly tying/fishing second, and slingshots a close third. I know some around here get pissy there's too much non fishing info and posts.

Premium greenhouse blend is what I use. Know exactly what's in it.
It's not a nomal gavel, top soil and compost company selling at 45 bucks a yard lol.
But yes, in general, good advice.

I garden more than i fish. Trying to find balance though lol.
I'm a serial hobbiest. Have 20 hobbies, suck at all of them. So many unfinished projects, future plans and forgotten ideas. But that's all fine with me lol

That's what I need, and we have the same truck and color, except mine is a 4x4 sport, 6 foot bed 2016.
Nice. This one's a 2018, but got it in November with only 27k miles. Too bad I've already put 10k miles on it since then. Eek. It'll roll to 200k by the time I pay it off lol.

Its been to the shop a few times, kind of a bummer. But overall I like it alot. Way more interior room then my 02 ford.

Always good advice Capt

I have been getting this. $17.99 a bale. I have bought 5 this year. This is the base - my compost, worm castings and organic granular are added, maybe alfalfa meal.
The eb Stone ingredients:
Composted Wood Shavings, Redwood Compost, Composted Chicken Manure, Fir Bark, Bat Guano, Kelp Meal and Alfalfa Meal. For Best results, never plant anything without our Sure Start. *Only Available in Oregon & Washington

How do you use the tobacco when it is grown?
This is my first year growing. I have a multi use idea. I'm going to space them out all over intermixed with other crops to keep insects away(I dunno if this is good or bad, or even work yet, and I am aware of mosaic virus). When leaves are ripe I will cut, string up, and hang dry(gloved up so I dont poison myself). I have to get a leaf shredder, but from this point I can shred the leaves and steep in water for an insecticide spray, or vac pac and keep for many seasons of insecticide. I might try fermenting some and pressing into a brick for pipes, or diy (ugly) cigars. If the fermenting works out I will ferment/dry and vacuum pack them away for future barter. I know a few smokers I could trade with. I don't smoke, nor do I advocate smoking. A cigar is nice at the right place and time, it's probably been a few years since I had one. Mostly this is just to see if I can do it, and a bug killer.

Well that's about 1000-1200 onions, that was a back killer. Walla walla and Newburg storage onion.

Then a few patches of heirloom grains I need to get in. Multiplying out the seed this year. I got some White Sonora soft white wheat planted in a pot, they only send 25 seeds a pack( for $7.00).

It took a few years, but my jasmine has finally filled in on my trellis. Nice privacy barrier between yards. My back yard smells very fragrant, similar to the swimmer. πŸ˜‚

Watering...
So much watering
:)
Started early in the week with deep soaks, hope all the stuff in the gardens makes it through next week.
I just got about 150 plants delivered, and going to be too hot to plant, so now get to water 2x a day for a week.

No sh!t...
Don't think it's not a topic of discussion for us.

Those are just my plants for jobs, we have another 120 or so ready to go in from the seed house. It was a rookie move for me to order last week, should have put everybody off.
Wrong time of year for upper 80's...
Sitting on almost 250 containers that need soaking 2x a day, that's not counting the actual gardens...
We are so f*cked right now, I could sure use to be retired..., then it would not be an issue.

My garden will be great this year because I am… retired that is

My garden will be fine, but I will be burning the candle at both ends...for the next 10 days at least.
Need morning clouds, a little light rain, mid 60's to low 70's, and it will all be fine.
😁
