Mt Adams area FF options end of April?

Looking for some FF ideas for an upcoming trip. Wife and I will be spending a few days in the Mt Adams area at the end of the month.

This is mostly just a getaway trip to an area we haven't really been to. Still might sneak in some bank fishing if there are any simple options then. We'll be driving her car which does well in light snow but not really a rough road car. I was thinking about "large water fowl" Lake, but a buddy said the road is crappy assuming even it's snow free.

Anyway, not looking for secret spots. Just want to wet a line somewhere easy access and simple. Cricks, lakes, ponds, for trout/panfish/bass, or maybe whitefish in the Klick if it's open? Thanks.

I've only taken one trip to that area (I was north of Mt. Adams, south of St. Helens). Beautiful country! Here's the trip report that I posted on the old site:

Still pretty snowy up there. Shoot, we had snow at 1000' last night.
I believe Klick is open for whites year round but I think you have to fish something smaller than a 14. Definitely check the regs. White Salmon might be open too but haven't looked. Some side ponds on the Columbia might have early smallies, and there are a couple small lakes that get planted.

I talked with the Mt Adams GPNF ranger not long ago, and they said the lake will not be accessible until mid-May .. or later. Lot's of deep snow. Good luck!

My thoughts exactly. No doubt there’s good fishing up there in the summer(if cascades trout is your jam)… but right now, I don’t think much if anything is open - whether it be closed by regs or snow and ice.

If you're a senior, disabled person or a kid, you can fish the Little Klick inside the Goldendale city limits starting on the 22nd. I'm sure they'll plant it before that. May have already, but haven't updated the website. It could be high from snow melt this year and I know there's a wet front coming tomorrow night.

They dump a lot of fish into Spearfish, Rowland and Horsethief lakes down along HWY 14.

And Mill Pond, like klq@stl noted, but I have no idea if they plant it or if it's more of a natural lake.

Big Klick is closed for everything, even whitefish. Last day for that was Feb 28.

The higher lakes are inaccessible until around memorial day. The lakes along the Columbia is your best bet but be wary of windy conditions in the gorge, also know as the great wind tunnel of the northwest. Rowland is shortest drive from Trout Lake. Good luck, have fun.

I'll bring my cheapo 4wt and maybe a spin rod, but leaning towards just exploring the area and maybe doing some easy hikes.

I've got a list of 8 or so trails, unfortunately the most interesting are above 2,000'. Anyone have a rough idea of what elevations are currently snowed in around the Mt Adams area? Haven't had a problem finding weather info on where snow might fall but not having any luck on current winter road conditions by elevation. Not planning anything where we can't high-tail it out quickly if it starts snowing.

Thanks. Thought the same thing a day late yesterday. Stupidly assuming they would be open on the weekend when people are actually recreating in the Pinchoff. We're going to explore and found some lower elevation trails if the higher stuff is snowed in. Packing the 4wt in case but not counting on using it.
