Non-Fly What’s your favorite cheap flounder bait

An inch long piece of any of the various power bait impregnated worms. (bass baits). I used that bait of years to introduce kids to the pleasure of flounder fishing. Half of a worm would provide enough bait to kept 3 kids fishing and catching fish for as long as their interest lasted.

I would put those pieces on the old eagle claw bait hook (the one with the slices on the back of the hook to hold the bait) usually in a size 6 or 4. If looking to make the bait a bit longer a drop of super glue on the hook shank will keep the bait from sliding form the hook. As close to fool proof I could find for bait for kids.

My family used to have a place in tidewater on the Nehalem River. We'd run down to the bay at low tide, put out 3 crab rings, go to the beach and suck up some sand shrimp, and that's what we'd use to fish for flounder and surf perch between crab ring runs. We'd have a slip sinker and a hook with the sandworm, nothing too complex. Both are great eating fish!
