This rod makes a great Alaska rod. Terrific Deschutes rod.

Zak, that extension unscrews from the butt, about three lefty loosies, drops down and tightens up by three righty tighties. It adds almost zero weight being aluminum.
I think the term used by T&T was “self storing fighting butt extension”.
I owned the 9’6” version of this rod (can’t remember model) and fished it from the Boca of the Chimehuin to Tierra del Fuego’s Rio Grande using 400 gr heads in the early 90s. It helped big time if the wind was from the wrong direction as it could be used semi Spey/switch style. Not real comfortable but workable.
With larger diameter reels becoming popular and larger fish in say, AK/SA/& Steelhead, etc. you also had better leverage.
Under the right circumstances that’s a very good rod at a very attractive price.
