Looking for guide recommendations and honest feedback about what to expect that time of year. I assume redfish would be the primary target species, but I know nothing of the fishery other than what I've gleaned from a few posts and Youtube videos. Would like to find a guide who could accommodate a mix of fly and gear, as the friends I'll be traveling with are eager to give it shot, but haven't really fly-fished before. Thanks for any input.

You should fish for jacks in Lake Pontchartrain. I don’t know any guides there but look for it on YouTube, I didn’t get a chance to do it last time we passed through the area.

When we last stayed in New Orleans during French Quarter Festival - so that would have been April - we went out for a day with Captain Pat in peddle style kayaks in the marsh area south of town. I fly fished, but Captain Pat supplied spinning gear for my wife (she wasn't keen on fly casting while sitting in the kayak) and a third person who joined in on the trip. We caught redfish, and I also caught a small black drum. We were staying in the Garden District, and Cap't. Pat picked us up and dropped us off at the end of the day, which was an advantage for us.
