I Rarely Fish Weekends………..

….but glad I did. I finished my chores today around 11am and didn’t have any plans for the day. Checked the wind report (light until 2pm) and that familiar voice in my head said, “Go fish you crazy old man, what the hell else do you have to do!” So I packed up the boat and hit the local C&R lake. I was on the water by 11:30 and much to my surprise (and pleasure) there wasn’t anyone else out, just a handful of guys scattered around the shoreline. There were fish finning and splashing in the shallow areas and based on previous experience I figured them to be smaller fish, taken bugs as they were coming to the surface. I put on an emerger and quickly proved my theory, but I was there for bigger prey and worked my way out into deeper water. Once I found an area and depth with willing fish, it was pretty decent for the next couple hours. The full sink line earned its keep today. The wind started picking up at 2 just as predicted and I kicked my way back to the launch before it had a chance to reach its forecast high of around 15mph. Total of seven to the net, with a couple missed takes. All fought well and put a good bend in the 6wt.

The little guy from the shallows.
