How do you pregame for the PBR in Billings tonight?

Not Moose's picture, but a few years back, my buddy had the WOOLBUSTERS...
He had mini Priefert Bucking Chutes, Bull Ropes, Vests, and Helmets...the kids sat up and held onto the rope.
In 2009, at 47 yrs of age, I could still run a sheep down, preventing kids from flying into the arena fencing.
Some great memories.... the kids and fans loved it...!! :)


This was 2009...

This little girl may have been the one, who came back, later that evening, for a "finals" event for the Montana Silversmith buckle. I raced to the end of the arena... sheep turned sharply... I baseball slid and caught her in "super-girl" flight, by the shoulder... it kept her from smashing her face on the fencing. The following year the organizer purchased mini-bull riding helmets with cages (see Moose's pic); bike helmets weren't going to cut it.

Oh, so it's not about cheap beer (PBR). When I was a kid, we had a neighbor down the road who was a semi-pro bull rider. Sherdy had broken ribs, broken pelvis, broken most of the bones in his body, which made it difficult to hold down a regular day job. The day before the Fourth of July rodeo was the junior rodeo. My step-brother and I rode steers at that when we were about 12 or 13 years old - way smaller than bulls, more like 600 pound animals, instead of 1600 to 2,000 pound bulls. That was crazy enough. I'm surprised my mom let us do it. I don't think she understood that it could be dangerous. We built a small fenced area with a bucking chute off the side of the barn so we could practice. I sometimes have a hard time believing some of stuff we thought was fun at home on the stump ranch, as we called home.

You guys are great. My grandson did the mutton bustin' last year and I'll have two riding this year. Can't wait for rodeo season.

Alright, here's a little recap. The production is first class. Everything is designed to get you pumped and you are entertained from start to finish. The music, the announcers, the clowns, and bull riders....it is non stop.

There is nothing stuffy about this crowd, just the opposite actually as the folks couldn't be nicer. Gentlemen tipping their hats, holding doors, saying excuse me as they walk by. These folks are very patriotic and they even started the event with prayer. It is a great family event.

Here are a couple vids. I love the hype. Might have to do something like this when I have guests on the river.



And this video kind of sums it up. Little music, young cowboys dancing, some moms getting into it on the big screen, and then bam they hit you with a bull ride and the cowboy goes 8 seconds.



Gotta head back to Bozeman today but I think we'll be coming back next year.
 
When I was at Montana State they had an event every once in a while where anybody could sign some form and jump on a easy but real bull. It was in the dome; I can’t remember it’s name. This was popular with the crowd that wore shirts that said, “Fuckin A Drunk All Day”. I never rode because I was terrified.

The Bobcats were national rodeo champions and I lived with the champion cutter for a time. Also a minor league hockey player. Our house was central party time with beautiful ladies and all of it. Unfortunately I had to move because I could not get a good nights sleep ever let alone study for my classes.

I fit into that scene as the exotic guy from the far away west coast. I would say I was from Bellingham and then after a look of confusion I would say it is north of Seattle by an hour. So to them I was from Seattle. I stopped correcting people after a while when they called me a city slicker from Seattle.
 
I've got a long history in the rodeo.. I had a boss who was a pro bull rider and I bought my first bass boat from a guy who breeds cutting horses. So as a qualified expert I have to say. Texas roadhouse is an adequate warm up but a much better option is the 287 roadhouse in Dumas Texas.
