NFR For Those on Medicare/Specifically Kaiser Plan…. Help appreciated!

Non-fishing related
Besides United Health Care as my supplemental I have Well Care for prescription drugs. It is quite affordable at about $35 a month with very small co-pays.

I have a part D plan but often use Good Rx for good pricing on prescriptions.
What's really interesting is that they list the price from all pharmacies in your area and there can be a huge swing in pricing.

Whoop Whoop! I’m making some headway! I got some good answers from Health Care Authority, Kaiser, PEBB and realized that i had some of the wrong forms which confused me so I’m getting the correct packets that is particular to our PEBB plan that is close to what we have. I have premium monthly cost amounts and I’m getting ready to sign up at medicare.gov . In one day i learned a lot from my earlier naïveté …. where i thought i walked into Kaiser Financial office filled out a few forms and voila, was signed up for Medicare and wrote them a check each month.

I’ll call the independent agent next week to cover extra questions.

That glass of water is going to be switched out for a glass of wine in about 90 minutes! I earned it.
Can’t stop wanting to thank you all!

Jojo, remember when I had that problem with my left hand. Everybody I saw on this was getting it all wrong. I ended up doing an MRI on my hand.. That wasn't what caused my problem. It was nerve damage in my left elbow. Nobody addressed that. Just like the other problem with my left knee. I went down in my tub and had a hell of a time getting out. Now my left leg when ever I move wrong or bend my knee to far, it pops out of joint. Just x-rays on my knee. I needed an MRI. All I need to do now is sit down and relax my leg and watch it pop back in. When it does it doesn't hurt yet. But over time it might.

Recently my PCP called in a prescription for me to a local pharmacy at a dosage that the insurance could not approve under governance from Medicare. The doc should have known that but was one of several docs leaving the sinking private clinic I had gone to for 20 years that was recently purchased by a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, and had already checked out . I found the prescription cost with good RX varied wildly with prices as low as $7 to as high as $125 for a 1 month supply at different local pharmacies. My insurance company explained it to the pharmacy who called the doc to explain it, the doc rewrote the 'scrip and the meds are fully covered; no copay. My insurance company also helped me find a new PCP(!) at a different clinic with an Internal Medicine specialty that is best for me with my past medical conditions that have been resolved-stablized.

Part D coverage (formulary) changes every year. One needs to review it and compare it to the medications one is currently taking to make sure they are continued to be covered at a reasonable amount. One of the prescriptions I take is $4,000/month retail. With GoodRX it varies between $800/month and $1,200/month depending on the pharmacy. With my Plan D it is $80/month.

Moral of the story - every late fall check what is covered. If there is a significant change in coverage, time to look for a different Plan D...

Mark Cuban has started a new pharmacy/company Cost Plus Drugs. His goal is to make prescriptions affordable - Cost plus 15%. No crazy markups...

I just checked one of my common prescriptions. Retail is $44. My cost through Plan D is $10. CostPlusDrug is $6.60

They do not carry everything... They just started the company this last January and are in the process of expanding what they carry. Be interesting to see what happens and how it affects other prescription delivery companies.. He is taking on some goliaths.

Might be worth checking out:

Yes i do remember that! It’s weird how what hurts in one place starts somewhere else in the body. I thought i had a stress fracture because my lower leg all of a sudden started throbbing something fierce to the point where i couldn’t sleep. Xrays showed no fracture. But the MRI showed it came from my arthritic back with a bone spur pressing on nerve. It didn’t make sense that my leg hurt way worse than my back. Kind of reminded me of how when you get a roof leak it’s difficult to figure out from where it traveled.

I was just happy it didn’t turn out to be some tumor on my spine. Physical therapy helped me a lot because i had very tight muscles and not much flexibility. I’m better at night now and the PT exercises are my new workout.

My back makes me hurt down my legs to my feet. When it shows up I know how to care for it's quirks. Just about every 4 years I can count on it fucking me up some place in my body. Both of my knees are totaled. I shake like a flag in the wind. It affects my typing But I'm still on top of the dirt. That's what counts.
