Actually the 11 wt Musky is becoming my favorite 😁
Do you really use a 10 or an 11 for bass? So you can throw huge flies?

For a lot of fish the old β€œbig fly = big fish ain’t necessarily true”. When it comes to bass, there’s something to it in my experience

Yeah man. The Echo Musky 11 wt is my new go to. I will probably end up with 3 or 4 of them. My whole gig is throwing big poppers to big bass. I mean I live for that shit.

Some of the biggest bass I’ve caught is while musky fishing with 14-20 inch flies

There’s nothing like a big bucket mouth attacking a popper

I feel like I'd need an iron man suit to toss flies that size.
On a windy day, there’s some pucker factor man.

I’ve hooked myself in the back of the head twice with clousers; one of those 5/0 hooks sticking me isn’t something I want to experience.

Even with the size 2 Gami SC 15 hooks that the closers were tied on, they had to be cut out. They were barbed.

A 5/0 hook might penetrate deep enough to hit a fucking artery or puncture a lung

I voted 8 weight. Gives me the ability to throw big flies and keep them fuckers out of the weeds. They’re masters at opening their big ole bucket mouths and dragging it through the lily pads and getting off
Yep, same. I like popping in the pads and reeds. It's crazy how much havoc a 15" bass can cause. So if it ends up being a good one over a few pounds I want the 8wt!

I don’t fish for bass a ton but 7 weight is king for me though I’ve landed my biggest LM on a 9”6’ 6 weight, on a crazy windy day and a big profile fly..and was fine. I don’t need to hydroplane 4 lb bass across the lake surface like gear tournament guys do.

I am collecting quite the arsenal of 7 weights. Great for beach salmon. Great for AK and MT streamers. Great for SM and LM though bass experience is a bit limited compared to other applications. It’s a great, versatile weight that does not get enough love IMO.

When bass fishing I usually have a 7 weight with a sink or intermediate line and a 6 weight for poppers. Not fishing the size poppers Billy is though.

There is one good reason for the hydroplane for us non-tourney anglers. It's called lily pads. :)
The pads at my local will break 10 lb Max by mid-summer. And by September, they'll break 12 lb. So if you want that fish, you gotta get em outta the pads ASAP. The 8wt is best for that.
Having said that, I do enjoy slinging the small frog poppers with a 6wt early in the year when the pads aren't giant. It makes all the 9-12" fish more fun. I have lost some 3 & 4 pounders because of the 6wt though. That first 10 seconds is critical for LG. They can wreck you quick.
And the 7wt is always in the boat as the wet line and/or backup.

That makes a lot of sense. I am not fishing bass later in the year when pads are bad as I am usually salmon centric by then.

This is a bad ass 7 weight acting
Like an 8 weight. Used once for bass but also good for launches off the beach for SRC and Salmon. Minimal use so far but will be used more here soon. Live on north end or east end of Lake Washington and there are bass out here. Great rod, for those in the TCR-TCX family. Color a bit of odd Like with tennis shoes. You
Like them but odd ass colors at
Times. 😜 IMG_4214.jpeg

My main bass rod and overall still water big fish is a 790-4 RPL. Kinda a do everything rod. The Bolt is for extra launch casting.
