For the past 15 years I’ve been leaning a piece of grey craft foam against the base of my Ott light as a background for tying/photographing flies; easier on the eyes and cuts out all the distracting clutter on the pics.
Worked well enough but not a perfect solution; got tired of it slipping, slumping and having to constantly reset the angle when photographing but didn’t want to pay the $$ for a profile plate.
Can’t remember where, but someone on the interweb recommended a cheap microphone pop blocker, a round plastic frame on a gooseneck arm with a clamp-on base than fit perfectly on the vise stem and set me back $6.00.
Cut a foam disk, tacked it on with a little contact cement and Bob’s your uncle; easy enough to try different foam colors for different photo effects, although grey works best for tying and does a good job with pics, as well.
Need to empty the waste bin; tying Muddlers can get a bit messy.
Regards,
Scott
