I noted this morning that the Crooked (Oregon) is running at 351 cfs. This is above the normal summer irrigation flows of around 200 to 220 cfs; I can only assume this means the Corp believes that there's enough snow in them thar hills to fill the reservoir and then some (currently at 51%). This would be exceptional news given where it started (about 10%) and where it was through last summer. Anyone out there know more than me? ... Let me rephrase that, anyone out there have specific information/intel on this particular topic?

Cheers

Yeah, I saw that. Typically this time of year starting to see snow levels really drop, currently they are continuing to stay steady with new snow replacing the melt; thus well above average for this date - but for Bachelor at least, total accumulation is at about normal (450 inches). No matter how you look at it though, this is great compared with the last few years!!

Cheers

The cool spring weather has slowed snowmelt to about zero...so if this cold weather keeps up those water equivalent numbers will continue to rise.

I used to live up stream from the reservoir many, many years ago.
Two weeks ago I took my kids and grand kids up to where their mother and I had lived through a really tough winter.
That is another story for another time, maybe.
Anyway the river above the reservoir was running clean and clear, no heavy run off.
I fished the river above the reservoir and caught many nice wild RB's and a lot of brown bull head cat fish.
I have never fished below the reservoir, but hope to someday.

@Canuck from Kansas ,

How is the East Coast Treating you?
I kept watch for you and your dogs over the years, especially in the Upper Deschutes area. I wouldve loved to introduce myself to you. Oh well, if you come out this way again, give me a holler and we can maybe fish together.

Back to the topic. I read last week that BOR and ODFW are bumping the ZCrooked flows up to flush the baby salmon/steelhead smolts down to the main Deschutes. Jeff Perin covered it in this weeks Flyfishers Place Fishing Report I think. Getting old. I think that is where I saw it.

Happy Spring all.

Just a reminder that the Crooked is getting the “pulse flow” today and tomorrow and is up over 300 cfs today and going to 400 cfs to help facilitate the steelhead smolt migration downstream.
I’d recommend waiting until Friday or Saturday for the fishing to stabilize after this.
The water is going to be more turbid than before, and that might last for a month or more. But Crooked River fish are used to that!
Should be a good season on the Crooked, the reservoir is going over 50% full today. Will it hit 75 or 80%? Maybe. I hope so.

Thanks for these, forgot they do this. Still, the res looks a whole lot better than last year, sure hope it does make it over 70%.

@Draketake, Would have liked to have bumped into you, had to be up there early to catch me though, I would be up there from sunrise to about 10 to noon, not usually any later. Skipped around a lot too, both below and above the bridge.

Cheers
