Glad you got out.
I had a similar experience across the water from where you were at. I sat on two different beaches for four hours total and never saw a fish caught by a lot of anglers. I was considering a beach nap, but 8:30 was a bit early for that.
I did see one jumper. I headed home without making a cast. It sure made cleanup easy.
Then one of the ferries broke down, so getting home turned into about a four hour deal. Fun times!
