Any of you bamboo nuts use heavier wt rods?

How long? Two piece? I might try to build one for a tuna trip just for fun.
Thx.
It's a 3 piece rod, at 8'6"... perfect for carrying on a plane. Not sure what taper Glenn used on it, but it casts fine with the tip, and you can lift with the butt. We use live sardines for chum when we find the fish, so tossing half a chicken doesn't have to go far. The dorado will eat a shoe when they're spooled up!

Thanks for info. Time to do some research and a little Hexrod engineering ; ). 12 wt and a full sink line....geez. I might even shorten to 8 feet.

I'm currently rough planing strips for a two piece 8' 6" 12 wt rod for a Sept tuna trip and if it casts remotely well, eventually a Christmas island trip for GT. It's .400 at the grip. It will probably weigh a considerable amount no matter what I do. Should I hollow it, and if so how far? As usual, I don't mind my rod breaking while fighting a fish, but I'd like to have it at least make sense as far as what I'm trying to do.
Thanks for input.
Mark
BTW...I'll be bringing a glass and graphite rod on the tuna trip also. One of the other members of our tuna group is bringing an Oyster bamboo 12 wt, so I'm pretty psyched to see how my rod behaves next to such a legendary rod builder's work.

I can’t seem to not get epoxy all over the place when placing the grip and reel seat.

Well…I think I’ll go with clear main wraps with maybe dark blue tips, since it’s supposed to be sort of a blue water rod.

Just finished up the “Kimi” 8’6” two piece 11/12 wt. I strengthened the butt to help bring in tuna a little faster (thus the name in honor of Kim Kardashian). The wraps are clear and purple. The Tibor Gulfstream balances it amazingly well. I’ll try it’s first lawn casts with an 11wt GT line this afternoon.
Happy Mother’s Day!
