@Evan B how did you end up liking that bag of Honduras? Have you cracked in the Columbia yet? If so any comparison notes? I’m looking for my next batch.

I just got a 25# bag of the Columbia you got from Copan @Evan B. Great prices, free shipping, plus comes in a burlap sack so I feel more legit now. Haven't cracked into it yet but looking forward to it in the new year. I usually order around 20# at a time with everything from 1# to 10# bags of...

Have you got into the Columbia at all?

How are you liking these? I'm ready for another order.

Luckily mine just adds some half and half and happily drinks whatever I roast. Light roast Ethiopia, darker roast Sumatra, medium Columbia? Fine with her. haha The Ethiopian and the like are certainly not the flavor profile most Americans expect in a coffee. I've really come to enjoy them, but...

But you have ordered from that site before? Do you have any other good sources?

@Evan B Have you had this specific Columbian before? Sounds like what I'd be after. "Almonds · Caramel · Chocolate · Grapefruit." Looks like a good place to buy too. I'm trying to remember if I have roasted Honduras coffee or not. I think one of my favorite roasts to date was a Columbian in...

I seem to remember you buying in pretty large quantities. Still the case? What are your preferred roast levels for these and how are you roasting these days?

My wife likes cream in her coffee so I still do a fair amount of coffee in the dark range. Usually no more than a few snaps of second but occasionally barely in to rolling.

Were you at or beyond second cracks on this?

Oh that’s happened a couple times for sure!

    Coffee talk

Yes. I like roasting but there are many times where it feels like more of a chore than anything. But hard to go back to off the shelf coffee or justify the expense of specialty roasts for everything. Plenty of evenings where it's "oh $hit we're out of coffee for tomorrow" and I have to go down...

I had the power go out mid roast very early on. Re-roasted later on and it came out drinkable.

IIRC you are roasting like 1/4 lb at a time? Or how many roasts do you get out of 1 lb? The sweet spot for my setup is 1 lb/roast, so I'm going through quite a bit to figure things out. I have to roast about 600 g/week to supply our household. I'd like to do more experimenting though. I have...

    Coffee talk

I get that for sure. I guess my main thing would be there is a chance the first few roasts don't go super good. Having something cheap to burn through isn't a bad idea (not like the sample pack is super expensive). Plus you know what it's "supposed" to taste like so you get that feedback loop a...

    Coffee talk

That was my first order way back when I think. The upside is you get to sample some variety pretty quick. The downside is it's harder to find consistency and patterns between roasts because the beans are changing like every batch. Not insurmountable, but I might suggest something easy to roast...

    Puget Sound

I first stepped foot on a PS beach in 2008. But 2008-2012 or so I do remember there being significantly more days where you would "see" the school coming as the rods started bending one after another and anxiously awaiting your turn. It still happens but sure seems like with less frequency.

Will we be Fishing For Salmon in Ten Years?

Need to introduce stripers in PS and smallies in the streams and rivers. Climate resistant fisheries for the next generation. (I'm kidding of course) It's a fair question. In my 16 years fishing PS, we have lost opportunity and I perceive a reduction in numbers and size of coho. That said, I...

    Puget Sound

Beaching 40-50 fish in 30 minutes!? Don't think I've ever witnessed a scene like that in my years of beach fishing the PS! Especially from the buzz bomb crowd. That must have been one hell of a school of coho!

Nice! What kind of batch size can you do? I'm always somewhat interested in upgrading or building something. Hard to justify much cost when my setup seems to work pretty well. But you never know what you're missing without trying something new I suppose. Well, they used to sell at $4.50/lb for...
