    10wt rod shopping

I have a Boost Blue in 8wt and a gifted older Winston 10wt. I much prefer casting the Boost Blue. Maybe check out the new Echo rod that Flip helped design.

    Bow stop wearing down fiberglass

That almost looks like Wetlander. I used that on my Alumaweld and loved it. Only had the boat slip off the bank and try to float away once. :)

Thanks. Pure speculation has created some great discussion though. :)

    Bow stop wearing down fiberglass

I'll need to drop it off the trailer to get a picture, and the weather is suggesting I don't go out this weekend. I think it's getting through the gel coat now.

    Bow stop wearing down fiberglass

My fiberglass drift boat has quite a few road miles this year and I've noticed significantly more wear on the bow. Do any of you do anything to recoat your bow or protect it? Do I just wait until the whole boat needs a visit to Clacka for a recoat?

Fly Shop Life as a Dad

Congrats. You made the right choice. There's very little that compares to those first days and weeks.

How many rods have you broken?

I've broken 5 rods (well, 4 rods, once twice). tip of my TFO 5wt. Camper door blew shut while I was putting it inside because of weather. tip of my 7wt Beulah. forgot it was a 10' when sliding it into the rod holder on the boat with a 9'. Pushed too hard. Thomas & Thomas (used) - broke on the...

    Show Us Your Humpies !!!

Recently hit the Snohomish and had better luck than average - though admittedly most were caught on spinners. As the rower/netter, I didn't get any photos.

    Tipping shuttle drivers

I always leave a tip of some sort. Some services don't accept the tip though, which is fine, but at the end of the day, I'm always relieved to see my vehicle at the take out. I had one service in Jackson, WY "decide not to work that day" after having arranged the shuttle.

NFR Ultrasonic cleaner for polarized glasses?

I wanted to see how people approach cleaning their polarized glasses. I typically use the microfiber cloth for quick cleanings, then use soapy water after a trip. But over a summer, you tend to build up a lot of "human" on your frames, bridge pads, etc. My wife recently got an ultrasonic...

    SFR Reapplication of Sunscreen?

I use physical sunscreen (e.g. Zinc) on my hands because they bear the brunt of exposure. Since I'm rowing and fishing, I don't like chemical sunscreen on my hands because it's rough on gear, and I find that I can usually apply the physical sunscreen to the back of one hand, then successfully...

    Merrill Lake closure

Thanks for sharing this. We've made a couple awkward u-turns with a drift boat because there's been no information about the status of the road. This is frustrating - and while I've not been thrilled about the increased popularity that Merrill has gained during the pandemic for paddle boarders...

I've cracked three line tips in the last 3 months and it's time to cut & reweld. I must be casting like an @$shole. :)

Comment by 'rooftop' in article 'Reel Innovation?: A Look at the OCR Bighorn Semi-automatic Fly Reel'

I just bought a South Bend mechanical reel at an antiques store for $5. Mostly for nostalgia since it's what I learned on. I'll eventually rig it up with my super-old Shakespeare rod for lake trolling. The whole outfit will cost me probably $13 because of the cost of new backing. Apparently the...

We did La Paz for Thanksgiving a few years back. It was amazing and if it weren't for damn family, I'd happily do that every year.

Echo 10wt E3S vs. Boost Blue & Prime

I love my Boost Blue 8wt. It's superior to the Thomas & Thomas Solar that I broke and replaced it with (repair would have cost more than the Boost Blue and taken several months). I use it for salt & rivers and it casts a full sink with weighted flies quite well.
