The Joe is great, lots of good spots to camp once you get upstream of Avery. Last time I was there in October, it didn't fish quite as well as it does earlier in the year but still pretty good. It's a special place and won't disappoint. I haven't fished the NFC so no input there.

There was no conversion. I learned how to catch fish on flies as a young kid (thanks to my dad), and it's still the only way I really know how to do it.

It's not something I do often. I fished Saturday and stayed that night at a buddy's place and just didn't want to unload all of my crap into his house. Obviously I wish I had in hindsight. I thought it was a decently lit spot to park in plain view of multiple houses but that didn't stop them.
