    Magdalena Bay Report

Hwy 19 between Todos and Cabo is 4-lane divided highway now with nearly zero potholes. It's better than a lot of the roads north of the border. North of La Paz is a different story, but they did a ton of work last winter and fixed most of the brutal pothole sections.

    Any use the Garmin InReach?

My summer cabin is not far from there (4 1/2 miles south of Liberty) and I was watching the flames at night too. I've tried just tossing the Starlink Mini on the dash and it sorta works until you turn the wrong way. The amount of glass in your windshield probably makes a big difference. It...

    Any use the Garmin InReach?

Longtime InReach user here. I rarely travel anywhere without it. It goes in my carry-on bag when I fly - just in case of an Alive situation. I have dash mounts for it in a couple rigs too so it can send tracking data regularly when I'm on the move in remote locations and might need someone to...

That name doesn't ring a bell, but expats in TS practically outnumber locals.

    Magdalena Bay Report

I fished Mag Bag the first week of November out of Lopez Mateos. It was a quick turn and burn back north after making the drive to my house near Todos Santos a few days earlier. Unfortunately, while the marlin fishing was going off down south near San Carlos, we had rougher ocean conditions and...

Strange, weird or odd or whatever beach finds thread….

No, but when the wind changed I decided to abort my prime palapa parking spot and drive a couple hundred yards further up the beach and deploy my awning instead.

    San Diego recommendations

Dangerous how? The only time I've felt unsafe mako fishing was when one broke off and then free jumped 30 seconds later right next to the boat. That had nothing to do with the type of rod being used.

Fishing down in Mexico - Part 1

That 105 degree day was a scorcher. I had been fishing the beach the day prior, then foolishly went up to one of the hot springs in the mountains by Santiago that day with my wife. The dash in our 4runner was showing an outside temp of 104 even up in the mountains. San Jose and Cabo were in the...

    Non-Fly San Diego

Those rental skiffs are basically bathtubs with motors. They can be kind of fun for targeting bay bass and stuff though. July is typically prime time for makos. Maybe a little early for yellowtail, tuna and dorado, but that can fluctuate.

Chasing Permit in the Land of Frankincense (Oman - April 2024)

Good stuff. Both species of permit were uncooperative when I was there a couple of years ago. Only got one legit shot at an indo the whole week and did not see a single Africanus. The bream, wrasse, etc kept me busy though.

I went in Feb of 2022 and found it was not an ideal permit time, but good for all kinds of other stuff.

    Northwest Territories

That's cool. I fished a little bit up around Inuvik at the end of July and it was so hot up there that we saw grayling doing the death spiral in creeks that appeared to be flowing at maybe 1/4 of what they should have been.

Baja Madness 2023....Pt. 2 (the REEL fishing) & pt 3 (other cool shit).

Yep, no blue runners in Baja. They are very closely related species though.

Anyone Else Use Ham Radio? You might want to.

I got my ham technician license a few months ago primary because I'm going up the Dempster this summer in a convoy with 2 other vehicles and want to be able to communicate with the others. Cell service is extremely limited to non-existent up there, and Canada's version of GMRS is very crippled...
