I'm more than 50 years old and like the fact that fiddling with big fish is easier. no hand stripping in fish like pike, bass and carp. I recommend pumping the rod and then taking in the slack line. I no longer fish for trout. Semi automatic fly reels allow for fighting big fish on the reel
