    2026 Gardening Growing Thread

I do remember your tomato growing posts on the old site and was secretly hoping you’d chime in for advice. Not that there aren’t other great tomato growers around here but it seems like you know a thing or two. If Skip was still with us I’d take his advice as well.

    2026 Gardening Growing Thread

I’ts possible I’ve overwatered them? I don’t have a schedule per se, but generally a few times a week, always gently and at the soil level. I’ve applied 2 doses of “Tomato Tone” so far, in a wide ring around the plants. My raised bed tomatoes are doing fine with this. I’m located in Tacoma...

    2026 Gardening Growing Thread

Here’s a pic of one of the plants. Took the mulch layer off per your suggestion. The leaves are supple until they brown off and die back. Then they are crusty. The yellowing works its way up the stem until the whole set of leaves is dead.

    2026 Gardening Growing Thread

All of my potted tomatoes are looking rough. Online sources are suggesting that I either have an over/under watering issue, a nutrient deficiency issue, or a fungal disease. Yellowing leaves that turn brown/dry and eventually die off. I’ve been trying to prune off the “infected” leaves without...

    Revisiting a Burn

Very nice, thank you for sharing! It’s always cool to see how a burn bounces back, if allowed to remain undisturbed. Washington lilies are amazing. After seeing my first ones in bloom (central Oregon) I tracked down a native seed company and purchased a bag of seed. They will spend the winter in...

Mushroom and other wild edible foraging

From a few weeks ago… Conicas are not my favorite to eat but they are definitely are fun to pick. Wildflowers were blooming… Got our fill of the morel harvest and capped off the trip with a few armfuls of these.

    2026 Gardening Growing Thread

A couple pics of the newly reestablished garden. Had the entire back yard graded last year and had to rebuild from scratch in a new area of the yard as the old location is now a shed. Currently working on my 3rd chip drop to mulch what isn’t a raised bed. Alissa Craig sweet onions Sugar snaps...

    2026 Gardening Growing Thread

I know it’s the gardening thread and not the what are you listening to thread but… Last night I played this album while tending the garden and it was such a good pairing for that activity I thought I’d share. Might be my new go-to for the after work gardening decompress.

Mushroom and other wild edible foraging

Well, these were eaten with a couple days but.. 😁 For long term storage of bigger harvests, dehydrate with little to no heat until they are pretty much dried (a fan can work for this step). Then finish with medium-low heat until fully dry. They will store in an airtight container for years. I...

    What Are You Eating?

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Don’t worry, I’m still eating. Finished up a little morel camping trip. Mostly camping. Morel, asparagus, prosciutto pasta.

Mushroom and other wild edible foraging

Did an overnight scouting trip for naturals. Spent more time driving and hanging out at camp than walking but found some in both locations I went to. Enough for a few dinners at least. Moral (morel?) of the story is, it’s an early year and if this heat continues, it looks like it’s gonna be a...

    Tennis Elbow?

I’ve had it off and on for the last 6-7 years. It generally flares up during beach coho season. This past season I got myself one of these and it helped tremendously. I highly recommend watching some YouTube videos for exercises that work for you. https://www.theraband.com/products/flexbar

    Got Shrooms?

Cool report Steve! Some people candy the jelly tooth and make a sugared gummy-like treat with them. I haven’t tried it and probably never will but I sure like finding them. They’re fun to look at and touch 😁

    Sets of lake flies

Rich, I just sent you a message but I wanted to show my appreciation on your thread as well. Package can in the mail last week and they are very fishy looking and well tied flies. Thank you for the generous gift. We don’t know each other but it’s clear that you’re a class act. Hope you have a...

My Cat is Addicted to Fly Fishing

I got my cat addicted to fly fishing. He and his brother formerly had free range of the outdoors, which included nightly hunting activities and the occasional live mouse or bird being brought inside. Since my partner and I consolidated households together at my place, the boys have had to stay...

    What Are You Eating?

Pressure cookers have their time and place (I use my Instant Pot all the time). But braised meats are so much better cooked low and slow. I’ve done it both ways plenty of times and I’ll never go back to the “quick” braise method of a pressure cooker.
