    Celebrating Our 250th Anniversary

Not to brag or anything, but Lincoln and Omaha love this holiday so much that we sacrifice our lung health for it. 😬 Found out one dog love watching the fireworks now (she's old and senile) while the other one wouldn't leave the basement.

    Celebrating Our 250th Anniversary

We'll be hiding in the basement with the critters. The Fourth in Lincoln sounds like Fallujah circa 2004 on a normal year, this year is probably gonna be extra explodey. Sunday I'm hoping most people will be hungover, so I'll try to sneak out and harass the fish before it gets too hot.

    Furthest Travel to Fish

Puerto Rico; great place, great food, caught a permit blind-casting a clouser. 10/10, would do again.

SFR A decision has been made-big move coming

I've noticed that every time I move, I become a much more competent angler. Pushes you outside your comfort zone if you wanna catch the local fishes, ya know?

NFR TICKS - The Threat Grows

I like to hunt mushrooms in the spring around here, and boy howdy do I dislike ticks. Had one sneak into my beard a few years back and latch on, didn't notice it until the next day. Pulled it, and thought that was that. Couple days later my lymph node was the size of a golf ball, I was rocking a...

Fish Species That Defy the Fly

The tiger, piraiba, and goonch would be fun as heck on a fly rod; I've caught plenty of catfish on flies, see no reason why a 10 or 12wt and a big streamer wouldn't do some work on 'em. Bonus points if you get the tiger on topwater.

    Pet behavior

We lost our beauties, Frigg and Freya, in Dec '24 and Jun '25. We now have Marceline, who loves helping tie flies and playing fetch, and Mira, who loves snacks and sneaking outside. Four cats, four incredibly unique personalities. Pair that with Hella and Skathi, our two mutts, and we've got a...

    Show me your bass

Some notables from a recent tourney. Late night smallmouth; this was the best one after dark. Probably around 11pm, casting topwater and listening for the hit. Had to stop because of a sparky storm that blew in. Had quite a light show before it got close, great night. I had fished all day...

Fish Species That Defy the Fly

This one snarfed a leech. Hate seeing them where they're not supposed to be, but it is cool catching something so vibrant. Also they make good flathead bait apparently. Walleye, you say? Clousers around rocks will produce!

Fish Species That Defy the Fly

The bighead and silver carp are tough; the only ones I've managed to catch on a fly I had to basically dap the fly into their mouths as they fed near the surface. Fun, but not really sporting. I've heard of bigheads attacking minnow patterns on occasion, usually near dams for some reason. I...

    NFR Got any Herp pictures?

Bull Snake from November; we were both out on the jetty catching some rays. I also caught some fish. No word on how the snake did. Bullfrog from two weeks ago; was fishing a CPR tournament where the tourney identifier was "Eat Kermit"; thought the little guy should be warned.

    Skookum

Chinook jargon has (unfortunately) not made it to Nebraska. Need to start it up; "that's a skookum cornfield you've got growing there, Earl"

    Jon Boat Oar Lock Sockets

I've seen those; I'd like something wider like the original to spread the stress around a bit more. She's a good boat, but old and thin-metaled (is that a word?). Those little ones seem liable to tear out at the worst moment.

    What Are You Eating?

Oven-roasted broccoli is so freakin' good. I usually like mine a little crispier than MattB's there. Chop up the broc, toss with olive oil, s&p, red pepper flakes, and bake on a sheet pan at ~420 (blaze it) until done to your liking. A little grated parm on top after plating never hurts.
