That tekota is a workhorse. Yarded up a 90lb halibut on 25lb leader last summer. I never rinse or care for my gear either - I'm crazy like that.

Clean them really good - it's usually squeaking when river grime build up in there. Agree with silicon spray - not too much. I tried all sorts of other lithium grease etc, but they just attracted more grime and created a staining grease slurry that was worse than the squeaks. fml

It's kevlar. I think the resin on the bottom degraded from UV exposure.
