    Budget 4wt shorty recs?

I guess it's time to close this thread out. Seems like the CT is the only rod anyone has experience with. Used is an option, but right now there's not much on the auction site in my budget.

    Budget 4wt shorty recs?

I didn't say I wanted a moderate rod that I recall. Indeed, I said in a reply that a moderate-fast would likely be a better option for me.

    Not in the cards.

I dunno man, you don't know me and haven't seen me cast. You don't know what my leader rig is. All I can say is what I've already said before. Not sure why you feel the need to diagnose a person's cast you haven't seen and suggest that they're not a strong fly caster with no actual evidence. I'm...

I love Winston, but at 8' and with a general orientation toward in-close work I'm not sure it's a fit for me.

Yup, already have the 9' 5wt. Just using middle Met as a general river size.

This is exactly what I worry about. Thanks for the data point!

I'm fine with used, although I tend not to see a lot of under 9' 4wts from the past say two generations in my price range. Maybe I haven't spend enough time looking.

    Budget 4wt shorty recs?

Sorry, guess I wasn’t clear. I can cast with distance without double hauling on a 9’ 5wt, a 10’ 4wt, and an 8’ 6” 5wt. It’s not a matter of is it possible or can I cast. It’s a matter of a budget short 4wt that can perform decently 40-60ft when needed. Making it get out there, not forcing...

Otherwise, the CT seems like the perfect choice as folks have mentioned here.

I've read the YA Challenge, but as you note that's a 9' 5wt. The reason for the occasional longs casts is that when I can, I wet wade. It's correct to say that most casts won't need to be long, and it won't be the case that there are a lot of long casts, but I worry that a rod built to mimic...

    Budget 4wt shorty recs?

My concern with the Classic Trout is that the 8’6” 4wt will be realistically limited to 40ft or so. That’s mostly ok, but ideally the option to get a bit more line speed on occasion would be great. Is this a reasonable concern?

    Budget 4wt shorty recs?

TLDR: Which 8ft 2in – 8ft 8in 4wt would you buy for $350 or under? 90% single dry fly, walk and wade, biggest rivers around the size of upper Yak (Easton)/middle Metolius (Wizard Falls), experienced angler who is used to midrange/premium rods, needs to be able to throw longer casts (50-ish ft)...

    New Asquith

OP here. Definitely not of the view that people can't spend on what they want. I do think this is a quantum leap in pricing and that that doesn't bode well the general price of premium equipment, nearly 25% above the same weight/length Winston Air 2. Obviously, the Asquith is an ultra-premium...

Luis's is good. That said, if you want legitimate Mexican Woodburn has a great deal more to offer.
