    Non-Fly Skagit springers

I’ve caught them on the swing before just trying to learn a bit about getting them on gear. Plugging could be fun. I’m down to give that a try. Maybe spinners too. I also thought about bobber dogging yarn balls and prawns all soaked in scent? I really would rather not mess with roe but I...

    Non-Fly Skagit springers

Anyone have much luck with this fishery? I haven’t given it a try but I’m thinking I might fish the upper river this year when it opens. I don’t like fishing bait but I will if I have to I suppose.

    Sauk/Skagit open for CnR 2/1

The rain stopped about 5:30 when I got to the river after work and the sun came back out to make it a really beautiful evening. I caught my last steelhead of the 2025 season at 7:22pm on my float road. About a ten pound hen that looked ready to spawn any day. There was some real nice ones around...

Is it worth eating river pinks?

If they are chrome, fresh and bled/iced right away that aren’t too bad especially on the BBQ. Fish around Mount Vernon on the skagit and you’ll catch some fish worth eating. You may have to high grade your way into a limit of good keepers but that shouldn’t be a problem. I kept a couple last...

Short Belly lines with changeable tips

The tip rolls out really nicely with the wintertide if I’m hitting everything right. That mostly wasn’t a problem except when I got a little lazy. My body mechanics have been on autopilot for the shorter more aggressive Zone this season and I felt myself slipping back into the quicker paced...

Wait until you get to pull that bad boy out and open the next Amazon package 😂 you’ll be a new man.

    The original knife thread.

The thing to consider between knife makers is deciding which lock mechanism you find comfortable. At a certain price point (like a bench made) you can assume the edge will be comparable between makers and the quality of machining and tolerances will be similar. What makes them different when...

Short Belly lines with changeable tips

I fished the wintertide yesterday for several runs. The 550gr on my 8133 Burkie with a 15’ 9wt type 3 was a good match. Will it replace my Zone? Not sure about that yet, I need to cast it more and iron out overhang and anchor placement a little better.

    The original knife thread.

I have one of those and it’s a great knife I carried it for years. Nice and small. The bench made lock is really nicely designed and there is tons of aftermarket scales that are really sweet if you ever want to change the look of your knife.

My EDC. Chris Reeves Sebenza with titanium scales, thumb studs and clip. I’ve handled a lot of nice knives and to me it gets no more impressive than Chris Reeves.

Short Belly lines with changeable tips

Same grain window as my 8133 so I have a bunch of lines you could try that might suit the big river better.

Short Belly lines with changeable tips

Finally was able to order a Bridge Wintertide 550gr and I’m looking forward to casting it soon. Several fly shops recently restocked so if you have been waiting to try a Bridge product now is your chance before they sell out again.

What grain skagit head are you fishing? I might have some lines you could try out.

Short Belly lines with changeable tips

I have the H1 zone 575 and I love it. Absolutely rips. Usually fish 15’ rio tips in 9wt but was recently using 12’ t11 and it was firing too. Killer line for winter steel.

Short Belly lines with changeable tips

man I love it compared to a skagit. So much smoother and lively to cast IMO. If I could ever get a wintertide in my grain weight I’d be happy to fish one. Might have to try an EMT instead now 😂

Ever cast a nextcast zone? That line has made me change my mind about skagit heads.

What's your favorite mono running line & why?

I missed the bit about the Bimini. I tied loops in it with triple surgeons. I wasn’t sure if that was correct for the material so I put on a pair of leather gloves and tested it best I could and no breakage.
