    Commencement Bay opener…

Are you sure it’s open? Not seeing anything in the regs. If it’s anything like the Elliot bay fishery crack of dawn is the ticket. The only takedown I’ve had over there was on a silver horde plug funny enough, so don’t be afraid to fish something outside the norm

Flat fish fights seem mostly to be about physics and bringing a big flat thing with a large surface area up against water pressure. But it’s hilarious how well they fight for how tiny they are. When I was out lingcod fishing with my salmon trolling rod the bends would convince me we had a big...

    Official 2026 MLB Discussion Thread

Thoughts on the performance against the Orioles tonight? I was not too impressed watching at T-Mobile Park but watching the highlights there was a real solid effort at the bottom of the 9th. Wish I could've stayed for the whole game!

Is there a way to do this that involves bobbers? On a side note, I wonder how big these fellows get in the wild. I have a childhood memory of an absurdly big starry in the Seattle aquarium. Like, easily ten lbs. He was maybe 1/3rd of the size of their very respectable halibut. I assumed that...

I've been lucky enough to catch two, three if we include a baby that took a spinner half its size

    Cedar River

Only one 3-4 inch Rainbow today. My first fish with the beautiful 4wt I bought from @Wetswinger , first fish on a bobber, and first fish using felt soles. Man are they a gamechanger when it comes to feeling stable in the water.

    Non-Fly Puget Sound Lingcod

Man Puget sound lingcod is frustrating. Even more so when you come back to the marina and your neighbor is complaining about “only” catching an oversized. Took home some fish and chips that were too big to be bait though. And enjoyed some spectacular whale watching.

That is such an awesome work policy. I fished the same local this evening, extra large serving of salad but no fish

Took the girlfriend and her friends out for an evening cruise and saw a whale surface right outside the Edmonds marina. I think it was a gray whale but not positive

Comment by 'speedbird' in article '2026 Drought Conditions: Fishing Outlook for Washington & Oregon'

Really good write up. June is slow month for the salt so I will enjoy the earlier flows, but it's a sad state of affairs. I'm very worried for all the anadramous runs that had a brief spark of hope of recovery. The photos of dead salmon in the Columbia the last El-Nino cycle were heartbreaking

    Occupy Skagit, on steroids.

How many Washington State Republicans have serious policy proposals to improve our sportfishing opportunities?

Most rare or odd fish you encountered in Puget Sound or its Tributaries

Ah so they do exist! By mouth of the stilly I meant the tidal section of the river by the baseball field. To my knowledge as of the last NOF meeting the NF Stilly is still scheduled to open at the end of August, and assuming emergency regs don't close it I hope to be out there. Maybe I'll see...

Most rare or odd fish you encountered in Puget Sound or its Tributaries

"Rare/odd" means species, time of year, location, or run. I will start. I am 100% sure I saw a male even year pink roll close to the mouth of the Stillaguamish back in late September 2024. I can't find a single piece of documentation of such a run being ever known in that river and it still...

Kinda crazy how Black Rockfish are so visually similar to Largemouth Bass. It's like the same fish decided to independently evolve twice.

    Torque Wrench For Reinstalling Prop

Tangled two live bait lines up today. My deckhand/professional untangler took it upon himself to fix the problem. Buddy: "Watch the line" Me: "Got it". *Looks at the third rod on the other side of the boat, see's that it is clear, attempts to maneuver to keep boat over target structure * The...
