The season has started! The only sport that I follow. The defending champ NY Knicks collected their rings tonite - congrats on well earned title. The entire Knicks starting lineup returned again this year. Back at it. Just thrilled to see my lifetime favorite 76ers, loaded to the hilt...

There’s been an unusually large number of very small shad in the Oregon mid-coast estuaries this year. It’s as though the deep state is conspiring against us all.

I have been using Penn 6.5” bullnose for 10 years or so. They’re cheap enough to buy several pairs for boats and bags and such. I prefer the plastic grip to metal with cold wet hands. The side cutters don’t risk accidentally cutting line when unhooking fish. When you pick them up, they...

The amount of thermal energy captured by a molecule of CO2 in the atmosphere vastly exceeds the amount of energy released by burning fossil fuels to produce that CO2.

Without hesitation, this is a top 5 album for me.

Another true story. White people with no sense of western forest ecology started populating Montana around that time. Indigenous burning slowed … and ceased abruptly in 1875 when white law enforcement killed Pend d’Oreille peoples for setting traditional fire. Controlled tribal burns stopped...

Moving USFS HQ leadership out of DC (where they can best coordinate with USDA and other federal agencies) to SLC is flat-out stupid. Worst of all, the move is so dumb that (guaranteed) HQ will be moved back to DC when the political winds change. Because that’s where it belongs. The same...

The foam does not kill an underground nest. Do this: Fill a beer bottle half-full with gasoline, invert and plug the hole. Do not light it! Let the vapors do their work. I’ve done this maybe a dozen times in as many years, 100% success rate. I have heavy clay soil, not sure I’d do it in a...

That translates to 12 wt level line. If you’re interested in diy and looping it yourself, I can search my stash of colored plastic spaghetti for a suitable chunk of 15 gr/ft?

My usual on that drive was to fish Fall Creek around the town of McLean, then visit Doug’s Fish Fry (where they “changed the oil more often than was needed”).

Maybe overpriced, but I don’t come across many 13’ prams in that condition for sale.

Yes, yes, this. I make the first series of wraps so tight that it takes real effort for the opposing wraps to straighten the eyes back to perpendicular. Max torque.

Brown was shown the door, in part, because of some personality issues. LeBron’s presence will help keep JB in check and allow Tyrese Maxey to continue to lead the team. If Embiid misses a ton of games and they learn rotations without him - great - as long as he’s healthy for the playoffs...

I used to live 2 blocks from Pat’s (and Geno’s). Both ok but a bit too hyped. Truth is you can get a good cheesesteak from any of a thousand places, as long as they’re using Amoroso’s also, it’s Jim’s .. not Jimmy’s. or Dicky’s.

What’s “Jimmy’s” ? Is that like “Dicky’s” in Seattle? :giggle:

I fish a 490-3 (graphite 3). For years I used an old Orvis (SA) DT4F for years, standard true-to-weight. Great for most fishing but on longer “long belly” type casts it required a lot of attention to timing, it was lots of grains to carry on a moderate blank. I replaced it with an SA Expert...

It’s been a good offseason for 76ers fans!
