    Got any bird pics?

Finally saw, and got a crappy 10x cell pic of, either a Western fly catcher, or a Western wood pee-wee. I get Merlin IDs for both but never see the cryptic little bastards. Leaning towards the "pee wee" (who comes up with this stuff?)

    NFR Need vehicle opinions.

Agreed. No plans to sell or trade it in. It will probably become my daily commuter. The change is my wife was working/car-pooling with me, but is now staying home to care for her Mom who lives with us. So we need a reliable 2nd car, and one with better ground clearance.

    NFR Need vehicle opinions.

Following this as we need a newer car with similar specs @clarkman is looking for. Anyone have input on the Mazda CX models? We love our 2017 Mazda 6 (reliable, handles great, decent mileage) but its got lousy ground clearance and close to 120k miles.

They're finally getting used to us. First time one has shown up two mornings in a row.

I was wondering the same thing. Most fish that eat shrimp tend to be tasty.

    2026 Gardening Growing Thread

Posted this in the foraging thread but think it has gardening potential. We have a couple dozen or so native wild blackcap raspberry plants (rubus leucodermis) scattered around the cleared area of our property. One set of canes is growing next to our raised beds. A few weeks ago I noticed...

    Summer trout games

I'm pretty sure you will always remember this day, and never regret "dragging" him up there. In another 15 years - if I'm still around and sufficiently functional, you have permission to drag my octogenarian ass up there, or similarly gorgeous/inaccessible place.

Mushroom and other wild edible foraging

Might be more of a gardening post, but it did start with foraging wild blackcap raspberries growing in several patches around the property. One was right in the garden area. So as an experiment, I did a quick chicken wire wrap to keep the birds out. Berries are ripe now. What they lack in...

Crappy cell shots but finally caught the pileated whacking away at the snag.

    Tuna Questions

Spin or not, those Spawn heads definitely work. I wonder if they just push a lot of water which makes the fibers move more? Definitely 2nd the rec to bring a variety of stuff.

    Tuna Questions

https://pnwflyfishing.com/forum/index.php?threads/whats-in-your-vise.4/post-257182 Yeah, guess I do tie high on the hook. At least with the baitfish patterns. Might cost me some retrieve refusals but I still catch tuna. Mostly I'm fishing a squid pattern like the one at far right. Hook...

I'll 2nd that. Never moving again though. The abandoned property next door to us needs his energy and attention.

    Tuna Questions

Using 2-hook flies sounds good from a hookup standpoint but sketchy when dealing with freshly gaffed fish in the middle of a hot bite. That said, short striking does happen with tuna. Found that out using over-sized squid patterns. I'd miss troll strikes, then get "pecks" on the retrieve...

    NFR World Cup

90 Not much of a soccer fan but also rooting for them being half Norwegian. I do know enough of the sport that beating Brazil is no small feat. First the Winter Olympics and now making their mark in the World Cup! Go Norway!

    Got any bird pics?

Lame ass Merlin screenshot but pretty stoked to add a new bird this morning. Had no idea there were any oriole species here in the PNW. I heard it plain as day in spite of the dreaded Merlin red dot. Also saw a great egret flying upriver.

    Got any bird pics?

Nope, not a local, random act of disgustingness. 25+ years ago while camping at Cape Lookout SP, I watched a trio of crows descend upon a still steaming poodle loaf. It's owner didn't feel the need to pick it up, but not that it mattered. They wolfed it down in seconds with apparent relish...

    Got any bird pics?

Rain bumped the river nicely so gave it another shot this morning. No gleaming summer unicorns hooked or seen. Good birding session though. Cedar waxwings are still hanging out on the logjam. Started to cross the river and got cussed out by a pair of spotted sandpipers. I sat down for a...

    Got any bird pics?

Close encounters with hummingbirds and a chickadee infestation this morning. What I wish I had is a pic or video of the Cooper's (?) hawk that was in hot pursuit of a robin this morning.
