Ross rods - anyone own one or used one, or know anything about them?

I bought that rod and the 9 weight version many years ago from Sierra. I still have the seven weight, I love it. Use it for bass.

Please convince me to buy a trout spey rod

They are so much fun. Even throwing a skagit head with a tip feels light and easy.

    What Waders?

I ended up going all the way and getting the patagucci's zippered expedition waders. I noticed them on folks who fish a lot and they really like them. I'm sure the new non-pfas line they are coming out with next year will be excellent, but I also am leery of 1st gen tech, so I took the...

    Favorite fly box for skaters?

My working lineup of skaters, wakers, muddlers, and hairwings goes in a Fishpond Pescador. Low profile and waterproof. Edit: I should add that my surface flies are on the smaller side. No giant hair or foam monstrosities.

What weight rod do you recommend to beginners in the PNW? (2024 version)

Have any steel fly rods survived to the 21st century? I kind of want to try one just to see what they are like.

What weight rod do you recommend to beginners in the PNW? (2024 version)

My first fly rod was a Pflueger fiberglass spinning rod and a piece 'o crap Martin automatic. My first "real" fly rod was a 6/7 weight St. Croix. I lived in the midwest and used it for Smallmouth/Largemouth, Bluegill, and occasional trips up to Michigan for trout. It was a broomstick, but it...

Sage is no longer on my radar

I would wager the vast majority of fishermen get out 10 times a year or less.

    Apparently I'm a spammer

I think a lot of people on there just don't get to fish enough. You can get some good info over there, and the classifieds are worth watching.

What's your favorite mono running line & why?

I use SA absolute flat mono. A 3 turn sugeons coated in a little knot sense is pretty small.

    Stringer Comp Micro Reel

Most of my euro-nymphing is on the Deschutes, and I wouldn't want that as my "reel" if I hook an 18" redband on 6 or 7x.

    Nymphing . . Hook set

Devin's video is the way to go. A euro nymphing action rod helps keep the fish pinned as well.

    Apparently I'm a spammer

The ban hammer on the two hand forum has a very light trigger.

    talk to me about center-pinning

You can fish spoons/spinners/colorado blades with them, with or without a bobber. It's way better than a flyrod for fishing nymphs under a bobber. You can cover a lot more water.

    talk to me about center-pinning

FYI - Berry's Bait and Tackle and Sea Run up in BC still sell Sage gear rods, at least as of a few years ago. Some other shops might sell them as well. I wouldn't call them cheap, but you can get a custom wrapped sage blank for the cost of a mid-range fly rod.

    Found Rod, McIver Park

Did you lose a fly rod with reel and line at McIver park recently? Message me or contact Colby at NWFFO.

    Naches River

Fun river to fish. Love that area. Get after it!

    talk to me about center-pinning

When you are dead drifting with a spinning rod, you have the bail open, and line is being pulled out off the reel. The line is just dumping off with slack though. If your bobber goes down, you have to engage the bail, reel in your slack, and then set the hook. With the centerpin rod, the...

    talk to me about center-pinning

It was the original "spinning" reel, before the Mitchell. If you didn't want to use a baitcaster or a fly rod, it was your other main option. It wasn't just used with a bobber, people threw spoons and other lures with it. I'm sure the main reason it fell out of favor was it's 1:1 retrieval rate.

    All the Rage...

They used to have one, for the Euro/UK market, a hover/int. Their salmon/steelhead lineup has suffered since the ownership change. Could be manufacturing issues, or maybe nobody in Colorado fishes for steelhead. Don't know what the deal is, nobody has stepped forward to set the record straight...

    What Waders?

I coulda sworn that Aquaz was the same manufacturer for Patagonia's waders.
