Fly Vise w/ Inline Rotary vs. Rotary Function - How helpful is inline truly?

I tied rotary style, on a Renzetti apprentice for a number of years, and it worked fine for an entry level vice. I wanted to upgrade and got my hands on Peak, Renzetti and Stonfo rotary vices. I liked the stonfo the best so that is the one I chose but it was pricier. It holds the hook really...

Newb Sonar - Fish Finder Questions - The Fine Points; How to Make Best Use of It?

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of excellent youtube videos on the various makes and models of fishfinders/sounders/graphs/chartplotters. All makes and models are better than floating around just watching for some birds to help you out. There is a lot going on in 15 feet and deeper that is...

    Rod holder question

I have switched over from the berkley quick set to the scotty R'5s. The only thing I don't like about them is the line rubs against the holder when a fish takes line. I had the same issue with my Berkleys. So far I have only been catching low grade Fraser Valley domestics here on the island...

Yeah, but now that you crossed the border did you move to the dark side and slip on a swivel?

    Game changers?

If you are tying chironomids you will want UTC 70 thread. Anything made by Stonfo. I have a small telescoping magnet that I use daily when I drop a hook or bead on the floor. I also keep one in my boat for the same reason.

Best practice for deeply hooked fish?

I have a big ass spin n glo tied to mine. Makes it float and easier to find in the boat. That is about all my old steelhead gear is useful for these days.

    Uni knots

I use a double uni instead of a blood knot. I go through 4-6 times depending on the diameter of the material I am working with.

Best practice for deeply hooked fish?

The dissolving/rusting hook is a myth IMO. I have caught plenty of fish with hooks in the mouth, hanging out the anus after going through the digestive system and everything in between. The hooks I have seen are nowhere close to dissolving or rusting away. When I get fish like this I always...

    Show me your bass

I keep the Eagles well fed. Any incidental bass I catch have a very short lifespan after our encounter. Doing my best to clean up the trash.

How do you peg the indicator?

I take the regular indicator and drill it out and epoxy in a firm plastic tube that the black peg fits into. This gets away from the annoying expanding hole problem of the conventional indicator. This also means the pressure to hold the indicator stays the same and I can get it dialed in so it...

    What's in your vise?

I have 3 intermediate lines from three different manufactures, they all look the same, they all handle like s**t. My intermediate lines get used the least of all my lines as a result. I also have some wire that looked like that too. I just pulled all the loose wire off and carefully rewrapped...

    Is your desk a mess?

I used to end up with capt chaos on my desk top. I now try and do 5 minutes worth of straightening things up once a week. This does wonders to keep things manageable. I find a somewhat organized desk to be less stressful and adds to the enjoyment of tying.

    Lifepo4 trolling battery

I have a 110ah Dakota LiPO4. It is half the weight of a SLA and can be operated down to 5% reserve without damaging the battery. I like everything about the battery except the cost. If it lasts for 10+ years as is claimed it will be a great buy. I will get back to you in 9 years.

    Side scan sonar

I find my 60 degree cone, 83 hz, 2d sonar is extremely useful, even in shallow water, 200hz not so much. The guys that I have spoken with about the new sidescan sounders say they are useful in clear water, not so much when the water increases turbidity. Sidescan looks to be very dependent on...

Anyone Using a Stonfo Vise ?

Love my stonfo. Filled the base with lead shot, no issues. Your upgrade looks great though.
