Some more smallie flies.

Starting to think about smallies. I’ll start by filling holes in the box with old stand by’s before moving onto some more fun stuff. That said, I still have not found anything that works better for me than an all chartreuse/yellow clouser…

I started fishing the sound about 10-11 years ago now. Finding the right line is as important, if not more than the rod IMO. It’s worth the time and money spent finding the right line for your rod. There is a whole thread here on beach lines that’s worth a read if you have not already...

I love AI imaging! Any man can convince the world of absolute truths with a single, simple prompt. Einstein! Da Vincian! Simply amazing…

Related to this. What was the first thing you ever caught with a fly rod. For me it was a chicken. My mom knew I loved fishing and bought me a fly rod/reel/line combo she found at a thrift store. I had no fucking idea how to rig it for fishing with no other fly fisherman in my family/friend...

I cannot recall ever not fishing. Some of my earliest memories are of fishing with my dad, grandfather and uncles, mostly for trout and panfish with worms. Even though I lived in close to very close proximity to one of the best trout rivers in New England growing up as well as having a brook...

Maybe use AI to help identify AI generated images. AI can’t lie, right? The Pluribus effect…

Some SRC and rezzies fell for this guy last weekend. I tie way to many shrimp variants in winter but damn I love this style pattern for winter SRC and rezzie fishing. Time to start thinking chum fry and springtime bass soon. Oh, I may or may not have caught a fish or two on this shrimp...

Another day with a solid mix of SRC and rezzies and new spots found. Fun to to get my first ever two angler triple :). Definitely a moist kind of day.

Yeah, bird feeders are a no go here unfortunately. Too many rodents in the neighborhood. We have had three types of owls visit though. Barred, Barn and Great Horned. Woodpecker species so far include the Northern Flicker, Pileated, Hairy, Downey and the Red Breasted Sapsucker. List to date...

Anyone here into backyard birding? I have not been but historically. I’ve enjoyed the Woodpeckers and Owls that we see on my property but have not paid much attention to other species that are around outside of an appreciation of their calls while out and about. Although I’ve used the Merlin app...

Probably not. My wife’s big hobby is wildlife photography so we’ll be doing a lot of that. I fish a good chunk of my time off from work so this will likely be a hang out with my wife and not touch a fly rod for 10 days type vacation. I have been looking at potential options for 1/2 outings...

I have seen some poisonous snakes. The one type of guided hike I had done a few times over multiple visits to Costa Rica and my one trip to Panama is night hikes. Those guides see things the average person would not. We have seen venomous snakes on those. Taken with from a safe distance with a...

I’ve spent a little bit of time there as a tourist. Boquete in particular. I enjoyed it. Friendly people, a decent number of ex pats around, etc. I prefer Costa Rica over Panama in that region for the stuff I like to do. I enjoyed my time in Panama though. This was about 10 years ago at this...

My last 4 from weekly Friday night ritual my wife have been doing for close to 20 years now. Conventional oven with a 12 yo stone. I am from the New England. My biggest pizza pet peeve is undercooked pizza. Others may disagree. Been on a mushroom and onion kick lately but will throw an...

Wrapped two things the last 10 days or so. “The Rip” = bad. Ugh. Horrific plot. Bad execution. Unrealistic sets. Bad, bad. Oh, sure you gave us a tip, take 10% of the cartels 20 million. That’ll work out well for you.. “The Beast In Me” a must watch if you have an interest in seeing how one...

It’s been a number of years since I have seen rezzies in the variety of places we are finding them this winter. They really can make an ok day a really good one which is nice this time of year. It was a fun morning for sure. Fished a bunch of new spots. All seemed very promising but most were...

Some shrimp for SRC. All variations of the same style pattern. Different mix of materials. All should work just fine.

My earnest effort when fly tying is whipping up something that catches fish. I think euro nymphing introduced a lot of the fly styles you are referencing. Love it or hate it, it’s effective. Besides, what’s more earnest. A nymph with a giant oversized tungsten bead or a traditional unweighted...

I think dolphins/porpoises have long spinous processes like that if I recall correctly from my forensic anthropology classes in college. Maybe a harbor porpoise? Some pinnipeds have the same too I believe.
