    Arizona?

Theres some decent fishing there. Depends on the time of year and your location. San Juan River in New Mexico. Probably some good spots around Flagstaff. Mogollon Rim is across the Northern part of the state has higher elevations and cooler wetter conditions. Probably some good lakes there...

    Dr. Slick Cyclone nippers

I have cheap nippers on every set of waders but often use the scissors on my swiss army knife or leatherman micra tool on my keychain.

    St Joe's river ???

I fished there in September a few years back. The fellow in the Avery fly shop told us the hot summer fly was a #8 hopper. He was right. That worked until the frost killed the hoppers. Small dry flies like a #18 Renegade were effective. Cabezon wades where few others dare. Neither currents...

I’ve been using their $100 x11 spinning rods for coho. Rods have been fine except for the reel seat. Couldn’t find this sale online. Send a link.

    Identify this bug

Thank you very much. I think I’ve seen that many years ago on Lenice.

    Identify this bug

At 1000 this morning, a popular Cascade Lake at 4500 feet was carpeted with these insects. The hatch was over. Didn’t see any rises. Size #22-24 if it was a fly pattern.

    The St. Joe in September.

This is America. Damn the rattlesnakes and wild Indians. Damn the sharks and man eating orcas. Live your life and accept the risks. The Oregon Trail is littered with the bones of the weak and the unlucky. In order to be successful here, you need to research a few concepts. Including...

    The St. Joe in September.

Most folks don’t camp in the designated Campgrounds. There’s 30 odd miles of road along the river with informal camping spots. Several are large meadows with concrete toilets. You’ll find a spot.

    The St. Joe in September.

Closer than you know. There’s a road from Avery to Wallace Idaho where that fire occurred

    The St. Joe in September.

Be aware of the fire danger. Cell coverage in the drainage is nonexistent. Just a few years ago much of the upper river was closed due to an active fire. The are only a few ways in and out.

    The last road trip

I spent some time fishing Henry's Lake in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. We usually stayed at Stale’s Springs, which was the only CG on the lake at that time. Now there is a county boat launch/campground which is closer to the good fishing. The Bill Scheiss book is critical to...

    The St. Joe in September.

It’s a sweet little river. The one time I was there in early September, the best fly was a grasshopper. Beware because in the North country the frosts come early and will kill the hoppers. A 3 wt will catch any fish in that river. 15” were about max. I used mostly small dries like #16-18...

    Deschutes is toast.

Agreed. I used to fish there regularly when I lived in Oregon in the 80’s. I went back 3-4 years ago to Maupin and was very disappointed.

    Adult damsels? Need help!

The foam damsel works great and floats high when the waves are a foot high. It leaves something to be desired when the surface is flat. Try the braided butt style under those circumstances.

    Leech Lake Newb

All the parking lots were full today and boat trailers were parked along side of the road. At least 17 boats. I guess you have to go when it’s snowing.

    Leech Lake Newb

Maybe his tolerance for crowds is higher than ours. Maybe hes 18 and still learning. All any of us can expect is to learn from our mistakes and move on. If youre expecting solitude at leech, you wont find it. If youre looking for easy fish you wont find that either. Soon they will be...

    Leech Lake Newb

Well it’s not just the parking. Some folks don’t just unload their boats at the launch. They feel the need to park there, put on their waders, string up their rods, etc. the boat launch is the choke point. They’re a well mannered lot, there’s just too many of them. A few years back, I...

    Leech Lake Newb

The word is out. 18 boats on that little lake this morning.
