    Be careful out there

Icebox is the worst on the Hatchery to Wilson run, only because there are deceptive currents and ledge rock well hidden and very near the surface in spots. Not as bad in a raft but can be dangerous in a driftboat. It's not just that people are bad on the sticks, it's that they're distracted...

    Short Lightweight Rain Jackets

Hey Brian, I have the Patagonia Torrent Shell and you'll be pleasantly surprised how light it is! Good jacket, and living in the PNW it's always nice to have an xtra rain jacket. Think I'll put it in a stuff sack and stash it in the truck for emergencies.

    Short Lightweight Rain Jackets

Aquaz used to make a great one but like the others it's no longer in production. Drift Creek is an Oregon based company and the best bang for the buck in a lightweight fully waterproof jacket I've found. When I need it really short i just tighten the lower elastic an it will hold the bottom...

LAST MINUTE NORTH SOUND: Lagers & Letters with TU (skagit CnR season, etc)

Salmo G makes a good point about fee recurrence in years with escapement below the threshold for a season. I would not be happy paying an enhancement fee if there wasn't a fishery. Sounds like there is -no- good option. Especially given WDFW's sketchy negotiations. Frustrating!

LAST MINUTE NORTH SOUND: Lagers & Letters with TU (skagit CnR season, etc)

I only used 10 -15 bucks as a reference point. There are lots more fishermen and lots more miles of river to patrol on the Big C, esp when you include tributaries like Methow and Wenatchee. I don't know the actual numbers, just the process I'd follow for beginning the discussion.

LAST MINUTE NORTH SOUND: Lagers & Letters with TU (skagit CnR season, etc)

Little that WDFW does seems logical, but if it were me I'd lay out all the essential monitoring expenses and a reasonable projection for how many endorsements they would expect to sell. Divide expense by projected sales gives at least a reasonable starting point for discussion. If I remember...

LAST MINUTE NORTH SOUND: Lagers & Letters with TU (skagit CnR season, etc)

In the near term, I'm guessing that would be the best route. Our jacked up licensing fees should go to fund monitoring but they don't. There's nothing optimistic about the future budget either, so the most logical means would be opting into a Skagit River endorsement. I don't like it, but IMO...

Click pawl reels are the Harley Davidson of the river

Thanks DC, we needed a good humor thread! And while I like my noisy click and pawl reels on fly rods, I absolutely detest folks who engage the clicker on their 'pin reels when fighting fish. Not what it's intended for and done either to announce to the world that they're finally hooked up or...

Click pawl reels are the Harley Davidson of the river

Some people's stoke is tied to the length of their rod (and line) and the volume of their reel. Since there aren't many anadromous fish left to catch this personal stoke is about all they have left. ;)

    Snohomish to close until november.

Exactly! The guides who book trips and now have to cancel or relocate are just part of the reason this sucks. Others schedule vacation days to get in on the fishery knowing it will go downhill every day after Oct 13, with fewer and fewer bright fish. If it's that close to the line that a few...

    Official Beach Rod Thread

Another Blitz fan - I have the 6wt for SeaRuns and the 8wt for Coho/boat. My fave saltwater rod right now.

    NW Ontario (mostly non-fly)

We used to take family vacations at Little Moose Lodge in Emo, Ontario. Lots of walleye, pike, and muskie were caught. The loons, wolves, and moose are especially cool extras., and it sure is a magical place. And Walleye shore lunch = yum. Thanks for the pics Northern, definitely a trip down...

    The good boat deal thread

The old adage "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is" seems relevant in this case, as it was in many boats I looked at that were listed at exceptional prices that appeared well maintained in the photos.

    Another Crappie Evening

Decided to try a bobber-less tactic and stripped small beadhead streamers along the outer weedline on floating line at dusk. Pretty cool tightline grabs -

    Cows were lying down....

I will say that if I ever see cows in a vertical position the last thing I'll probably be thinking about is whether or not the fish are biting. ;)

How many rods have you broken?

Broken 6 casting and another 5 doing dumba$$ stuff. I used to test a lot of pre production spey rods and still remember certain models that had blank -weaknesses- that often resulted in breakage. Especially the old Sage 10151and the CND 13' 7wt Custom, because they each were great casting...

    The good boat deal thread

Hey Skyriver, you're absolutely right on all your observations. I was hesitant as well, because of the 2 stroke. But I posted it for discussion on a whim and after further thought have decided to keep it. :) I looked for quite a while for that particular hull/configuration in good condition...

    The good boat deal thread

Here's my contribution to the Good Boat Deal. :) This was an end stage Covid purchase, my attempt to buy/build the ultimate inshore and light offshore boat. 2007 Alumaweld Stryker 17' in pristine condition. All upholstry and full canvas enclosure in good condition. Has Merc 90hp Optimax...

Ready to pay for weather reports and forecasts?

I'm sure people in areas that demand accurate forecasts (coastal areas, tornado alleys, etc) for both recreation and survival will have a 'pro' level option . . .at a price. This is bullshit no matter what party or entity proposes it. We pay federal taxes . . . for what??? Foreign aid, bribes...
