The loudest voices in the room are anglers fishing out of boats. No surprise that seasons are crafted around those who show up. If you could get a hundred plus shore anglers (who agree on what you want) to show up to every meeting you might be able to craft something along the lines of what...
Jada isn't some actor's non-celebrity wife. She's an actress and attention seeking celebrity like so many of the nominees in the audience. The joke may have been bad, but if any of you are offended maybe you should watch clips of Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes or any number of celebrity...
Most of the Strait is offshore for silvers minus a couple spots that I have occasionally found them. Neah Bay is definitely a rip game outside of Swiftsure. The rips vary too. My favorite are the hard currents N of Tatoosh that you fish by drifting down current and casting to the side. It is...
I wouldn’t and I was launching the kayak from the Tongue Point side which is a long row from the Freshwater Bay boat ramp. For chinook along the kelp beds you could row from that ramp but be cautious about strong currents. I don’t know how fast your dory rows, but if you can’t row it at least 4...
I have never questioned your answers regarding what flies troll best as I have zero experience.
My "generalizing" is from years of reading your posts on the other forum. Maybe it's from having vastly different fishing experiences in close proximity such as what my "generalizing" post was...
A
I have fished buzz bombs off the rocks in that general area but that depends on bunch of yearly kelp growth. All of my fly fishing in that area was done in a kayak which allows access into areas the trollers can't or won't go. I've always found the coho not near the kelp but in the kelp...
We seem to be talking about trolling a bunch. Is twitching a weighted hoochie on a spinning rod (which is what the OP mentioned) a trolling method? I thought he was describing a casting and retrieving method when discussing potential flies. My fly recommendations do not work trolled.
I would...
Hell, why not add some more vintage shots.
Feeling nauseous?
Favorite tide rip spot
Rockfish working bait
Close encounters with humpbacks
And one of my favorite taken by Jeffrey Delia. Poppers rule everything around me (PREAM)
If you do want a hoochie type fly, maybe look at something like the Shock and Awe tube fly with some added rubber legs. The weight gives it the great up and down action and the rubber legs will add some more motion.
Well I don't pull anything when fly fishing since I don't troll (at least on the water ;)). My experience in the Strait is from Port Angeles west and I have seen coho on the surface near kelp beds near Freshwater Bay but I have also fished rips off of the spit and found salmon by casting...
Depends on where you are fishing, but if in the Ocean or Strait I wouldn't bother trying to match a specific hoochie and just fish a similar sized flash tail clouser. My color preference was always chartreuse and white but YMMV. Also if your buddies on the boat hook up cast near their hooked...
I have a family history of high cholesterol and lifestyle will trump genetics in most cases. Family members on statins and I have low cholesterol without any meds. I also used to weigh 300+ pounds in my late 20's / early 30's and now I'm pushing 50 years old being in the best health of my...
As for the wild release, as someone who dealt with really short seasons prior to selective coho fisheries I can only say be careful what you wish for. As bad as it appears, imagine the salmon seasons going the way of the coastal halibut seasons.
Hopefully you're fishing for chinook as downriggers seem like such a waste of time for coho. I still remember a day out at Swiftsure in the early 2000's when we couldn't keep the coho off our cast flies and all I could hear was cursing from a buddy's boat who was trying to get through the...
My experience is that two hook rigs thrash coho compared to single hook rigs but that my N of 1. Haven’t read the regs in years and it’s hard to believe netting and sorting on deck is legal especially considering the River rules for steelhead, which are far hardier.
