I found some of the hydro float 50#, I’m excited to try it out after a decade or more of big game solar collector. I like the idea of no stretch with long casts on big water. If it’s a bust it was $14 which in 2024 dollars is basically free.

I like it a lot. Definitely intrigued, I’d be stoked to row one for a day and see how she fishes

I agree the Ceymar is a great reel for the ridiculous low price point but that drag can only take so many chromers before it’s totally shot. I have 4 in the graveyard and all of them came with no warning, working perfectly well one minute and then done the next, all 4 times with a fish on and...

Jeff will fish that with style. Truly amazing work.

I bought 4 okumas a few years ago and have smoked them all by now. They are cheap and perform great out of the box but eventually that drag is gonna go south. If you really aren’t gonna use it but a few times that’s not a bad idea either. For 30-40$ more the Nasci is a much better reel and I...

For the price I’m very happy with these bad boys. I would rinse well after occasional SW use and feel good about it. Personally I tend towards larger spin reels, I notice longer casts and less tangles and I don’t see a downside to more capacity on the big rivers I fish and would think that would...

I’ve never heard the term “captains stairs” but a boat captain once called them “acid stairs” so that’s what I like to call them. It makes my day when I get to explain what Acid Stairs are and why I think we should consider it. I’m gonna add the bit about witches for next time too, that’ll be...

I’ve done stairs like this multiple times on fishing vessels when I don’t have the space for a typical tread layout due to many factors beyond my control. They look more chaotic then they feel when you use them, but the first step at the top definitely seems sketchy if you’re going in blind...

Some funny looking coho chewing on my flies this morning.

That’s terrible news. Rest in Peace Roger, your family is in my thoughts. I’ll have to tie some top water sandlance in your honor.

I think the hand has been forced already. What would Ralph, Enos, Walt, Wes, Sandy, and Frank do?

I’m probably done cutty fishing for the season on my local water. All in all there was some really great days this season and some where I had to work a little harder but regardless, I managed to find SRC every outing, including the little walk ins I managed when I had a hour or two to kill here...

Blue Fox that I found on the bank for scale :) The muddler is tied a little fuller then I actually like but I tied my last batch “fur heavy” so cutthroat teeth could chew them to the right proportions and they could last a little longer. All the flies pictured have earned a spot in the coho box...

I tie my rolled muddlers the exact same as above but I use a small sparse underwing of angel hair, either gold or orange and a gold bead head. I tie my Mickey Finn’s also with a gold bead head, gold diamond braid body and the same gold angel hair wing between the yellow and red bucktail. Both...

Yeah dude see what he says I’d be curious what he suggests. It sucks watching my dad be in so much pain when I know he just wants to fish. Arthritic joints are brutal. His hands are much worse but if he leaves the knot tying to me it’s actually pretty manageable once he gets moving in the...

My dad struggles with arthritis and we’ve discovered wading boots are a real problem for his toe on one foot. He gets one day in his wading boots before his big toe essentially locks up and walking becomes difficult and painful after that. He has Simms G3 and yes they fit correctly. He has...

Looking for this line PM if you have one

The r8 is a good stick I’ve fished a few and actually really liked them. They brought back a little feel after going too hard in the konnetic era chasing ultra fast and ultra light and making rods that do little else well but throw the full fly line IMO. Ultra fast and ultra light came at the...

It’s definitely big compared to the beadhead rolled muddlers that are working nearly as well.

If you find a fly you have to fish it, and if you find an unopened beer you have to drink it. It’s the rules.
