A friend has been battling with the park to some action in replacing that hay field with trees for 5 years. He reports that park would harvest the hay and sell it (best use of public land? and how was the result funds used?). Further given the poor quality of the Fadalgo Island soils the...

Fish more than in 2025 and to still be fishing at the end of 2026.

If the Seahawks make it to the Super Bowl (certainly not a given) they could potentially face the both the 49ers and the Rams.

Today's sandwich included the last "fresh" tomato of from the 2025 crop ymmm,!

After a major flood it is not uncommon for Spada reservoir to be dirty enough to affect the fishability/turbidity of the Sky below the Sultan. Expect that condition to last for weeks. Curt

In the case of the Skagit bull trout, it appears that while they spawn in the upper reaches of the basin (where winter stream temperatures are below 4 degree C (below 49 degrees F) they tend to fill the rearing habitat from those spawning areas downstream. At low abundances nearly all the...

A great discussion that underlines the need to be able to convert those all too rare salmon takes to fish to hand. My approach/system to achieving the highest conversion rates of garbs to fish to hand as possible (something north of 80%) is essentially the same in any of my fishery where I'm...

During my trips to BC in 2022 the damage from the 2021 event to the road systems was at or even above what we are seeing from this current event. Bottomline the storms have becoming more damaging with the damage occurring at the point where the AR storm hose is aimed. I did find it...

It looks to me that the increased flows are a combination of impacts from both climate change and land use (logging in the case of the NF Stillaguamish). There is some debate which of the two play the larger role. There seems to be significant variation between basins the impacts. In the...

To Matt's point - An example of how parameters such as (100-year-flood) has changed we need look no further than the North Fork Stillaguamish. There are USGS flow records going back nearly 100 years (started in 1929). According to FEMA flood frequencies for the NF were - 10-year 28,100 cfs...

The latest Skagit flood level update (4:15{M) is getting very scary. The forecast is for levels 4.89 feet higher at Mt. Vernon Friday morning than the modern-day record. Perhaps even more worrisome is the length of time the river is expected to remove at or above major flood levels. It...

According to USGS peak flow records - The station on the Snohomish near Monroe goes back to the 1964 water year (beginning in October of 1963) The station on the Snoqualmie near Carnation started in 1941 The two stations on the Sauk also began in 1929. The Skagit near Concrete began in 1925 On...

For lakes I would nominate soft hackles. These simple flies require a body, some ribbing, and appropriate color hackle. For more than 50 years a box of soft hackles in sizes 14 to 6s and in a variety of colors/hues have been a staple in my lake fishing. In fact, if I was building a...

Matt - A "story" in line with one of the themes of "Nighty's" initial post. The day before this story a friend and I had floated the river on one of those winter days common in this region, A steady drizzle with temps in the upper 30s and fresh snow on the ridge tops. On reaching home I took...

You two definitely made lemonade out of the lemons you were giving. Reminds of the many times I have forgotten some piece of essential gear - for some reason those times seem to have always been in chase of those bulls. Thanks for reminding us of what wonderful fish bulls are and the...

A very discouraging result! However, after the discussions in the various town meetings on this topic it was abundantly clear this would be the result. The department of salmon continues to fail to recognize the life history differences between salmon and our native resident salmonids. In...

Aah the leaky wader game! The only waders I have used that were likely to last 5 years of about any kind of use was the 1970s rubberize canvas type waders (aka walking saunas). I never was so glad to finally wear out my wader and convert to the more modern lighter/breathable waders. The...

An awesome capr. Wonder if the fish were focusing on zooplankton - maybe daphnia?

Sorry for your loss May she rest in peace

Wow what a ride! Have been a Seattle baseball fan since the Pilots and while greatly disappointed in the loss last night. The 12 playoff games were must watch TV for the wife and myself A couple thoughts - Thought Wilson on the whole pushed the right buttons but those moves only work if...
