    Rocks

Thanks for sharing Guy. AZ has some good rock hounding from what I’ve heard. Last spring my partner and I went down there for a wedding. We took a day to look for fire agates but switched gears after coming up dry to look for our first AZ morels. Such a cool region. I need to get back there and...

    What's in your vise?

These look killer! I caught my PB Stillwater rainbow on a pattern very similar to this (but not as nice) while bass fishing. It was a hot and sunny July day. Pitched an olive bunny crawdad underneath a dock and it got absolutely crushed. Thought I had a state record LMB on until I realized it...

    NFR 2025 Gardening Growing Thread

Agreed on Bulgarian carrot. It’s been a few years since I’ve grown them but they are one of my favorites. Good suggestion.

If you can get an early start on either jalapeños or Serranos and get them to go red ripe, that’s another solid option. More flesh than cayenne. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with this season!

    NFR 2025 Gardening Growing Thread

Thai chilis are all pain and little flavor IMO. I’ve powdered them before but a little goes a long way and I’ve over-spiced quite a few dishes with them. A good place to start as an alternative would be Cayenne. They grow quite well out here. They are a good choice for heavy bearing, spicy...

Deboned whole chicken with stuffing, mashed potatoes and wild winter mushroom sauce (black trumpets, yellowfoot, hedgehogs).

    Brain fog

This has been one of the worst years for colds and flu that I remember. I work in a public setting with lots of staff. It seems like almost everyone I work with has gotten it this year, myself included. I got sick in mid-January for about a week, then again a few weeks later. I never recall ever...

    What Are You Eating?

Early signs of spring are appearing. Miner’s lettuce and grapefruit salad. The grapefruit came from a small tree my neighbor gifted me. Thick piths on the fruits but pretty damn good for a Washington grown grapefruit.

Monthly Fly Tying - Brewery or Distillery (Location: Eastside/North TBD) interest

Well, I live in Tacoma and work in south Seattle-ish. Anything Seattle based would draw a bigger group IMO.

Monthly Fly Tying - Brewery or Distillery (Location: Eastside/North TBD) interest

Man, I’d be way more down for this if the location was more centralized. Sounds like fun.

    Seattle Orvis Store Closing

Not to discount the doom and gloom of the current times because that shit is real. But…. Looking solely at Orvis as a company. Are they competitive with marketing strategies? Are they catering to a new generation of consumers? I’ve never shopped at an Orvis store and I don’t own any Orvis...

Biodegradable golf balls? I found at least 6 of them on the beach yesterday. And nowhere near a golf course.

    What Are You Eating?

Banana leaves are quite cheap at Asian markets but you would need a whole lot of them. Skunk cabbage leaves were used by local tribes for wrapping fish and other meats. The leaves are only edible after being boiled several times due to the high concentration of calcium oxalate crystals. For...

    What Are You Eating?

That would be a super fun way of cooking. Mine was frozen leftovers from last fall. I had to settle for the home smoker vs the pit. My stash is all gone now so maybe I’ll start digging in my backyard 🤣
