Got the grip sanded to shape (looks a little weird in the image but it feels good in my hand :ROFLMAO: ), also the ferrule ends crowned and prepped to mount. Tomorrow I'll cut the shafts to length, then trim the ferrule stations to the ferrule bore and mount them on the shafts with a little luck.
I'm getting momentum again on the Martha Marie today. I have enough coats of Tru-Oil on the shafts, about 22 coats by my count to move on in the process. Today the cork rings got glued on, and the ferrules were finished up and fitted. I will shape the grip next and cut the serrations and...
I did a quick little test under the reel seat area with the leather dye that Ray Gould suggested, I think it looks pretty good. This is only one coat of Tru-Oil on top of the stain compared to a section with twelve coats of the TO over a flamed rod section. The leather dye is the top shaft I'm...
I glued up my latest rod yesterday. A great Martha Marie taper, glued up with Resorcinol. I like the narrow dark highlights of the glue stains on the corners of the strips of the shafts. The glue up went well and this morning I pulled off the binding strings. The shafts look great despite...
OK Steve, you've reached a new high (or low) 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 That is the ugliest rod I've seen in my life.......But you did wash your truck for the picture (y)
For an intermediate I like, RIO Products Fly Line Mainstream Aqualux Intermediate Wf5I, Clear
For my floating lines, I like the 406 lines out of Montana
For my full sink line; I like RIO MAINSTREAM WF-5-S6 TYPE 6 FULL SINK SINKING
All these lines are thin in diameter, have minimum to no...

Here is a guide spacing guide you can use. I agree with Steve, I'd remove all the guides and start with the chart's spacing.

I like the 406 lines because they feel thinner than most other lines I have. The lines feel like there is less wind resistance because of the thinner diameter and carry the cast farther because of it. I think they feel as close to a silk line as you can get with a plastic line. If you are...
It's surprising how different lines from different manufactures will cast on a bamboo fly rod (I like 406 Fly Lines myself, no financial interest). Looks like you will have a nice balance with your Thompson 100 choice you have mounted. To easily sample many different lines just leave the...
