Here's an update to the repair, I think it turned out pretty well. Not a restoration quality but a repair for a working rod. The thread had a little damage, but I managed to save what was left.

Silk lines are nice to cast but you need to maintain them. Dressing the lines before use and drying the line post fishing trip off the reel is needed to keep the investment from rotting. I think that the 406 fly lines (plastic) are a great alternative without the need for the maintenance. But...
