SFR Bats and health-Everything impacts everything (NY Times)

Dunno, seems kinda bad we're living through this and it's either our fault, or we are exacerbating things at the very least. The "cycle of life" evolved after the Chicxulub meteor, too.

    Non-Fly Sandy

They are in there for sure, all the way up to the dam (over 800 wild coho this month). I seent 'some for sure. There's gotta be some up to eagle creek. Edit: Whoops, I'm talking about the Clackamas here, not the Sandy.

Nope, I just had this one. Rod is sold by the way.

    Non-Fly Dirtbag river Coho '24'

I don't fish above bonneville for coho, but I just checked the counts, and uh, it's looking pretty, pretty good...

    NRS Approach series

The one person approach looks pretty comparable to an outcast or watermaster (it is a couple of inches narrower). It looks like the slipstream might be a more capable raft (wider) if you are rowing heavier water. The lack of talk could be because they cost twice as much. Does seem to have nice...

    barred owls

My daughter found a feather in our neighborhood that I'm pretty sure was from a western-screech owl (we have a pair that regularly nests on our block). It had long and webby fibers kind of like a mallard flank. Not a barred owl, but like any owl, I bet they wouldn't be stiff enough. You'd need...

    End Of Season/1 Year

Looks like you're doing great! Just don't start fly-fishing for steelhead and you'll continue to be happy!

    Unreal summer steelhead day

The intermediate poly is clear, and it's a steelhead rising to a swung fly, so I bet it doesn't matter that much. I just throw 5-6 feet on there because it gives me enough to change a couple of flies, and seems to turn over adequately. The poly provides all the stick. Ends up being 6+ feet with...

    Non-Fly Dirtbag river Coho '24'

Man, I would love to catch a bobber coho with a bead on my pin rod. I've never been successful doing it, but I have caught them nymphing glo-bugs for some reason. It was a small creek though.

    NRS Approach series

Bumping this thread. Still no talk about them? Anyone seen one?

    Unreal summer steelhead day

I use about 6ish feet of tippet looped on with the intermediate. That was something I heard in a podcast with Tom Larimer, by the way.

    Portland-area - where to practice?

I think most of that restoration work on the creek is "done" for now (haven't actually seen any adult salmon or steelhead, but I have seen fry). Westmoreland casting pond is still operational. I do recall it gets drained periodically, I don't remember what time of year. I saw Travis Johnson and...

    Unreal summer steelhead day

One thing that will extend the life of your polyleader is cutting off the mono extension at the end so you've only got the coated portion left. Then albright knot a foot of 20lb ultragreen on the end, and put a loop in that. The mono core and coating stretch at different rates, so this trick...

    Whitefish are annoying

Remember where you caught those whitefish, and fish water that is faster than that. More likely to hold rainbows. Also what PhilR said, fish a little higher in the water column. Rainbows are more willing to look up.

    Unreal summer steelhead day

Maybe try a rage? I know the fancier fishermen poo-poo them, but they work and one of the reasons they were made was specifically for folks coming off of skagit lines. I use a rage with an intermediate or sink 3 polyleader for most summer work. The intermediate handles the classic...

    Salmon question

They are still crossing the falls according to the counts.

Which trout would you prefer to eat

I am finicky about trout, depends on what the temperature regime is in the body of water, and if the fish was stocked recently, but I will take one or two home occasionally because it impresses the family and convinces my significant other fishing isn't a complete waste of time and money.

    Idaho whitefish

The WA regs allow you to covertly fish for steelhead when it's closed, unfortunately. OR Whitefish regs allow you to fish for them if it is open for Salmon or Steelhead. If it's closed to Salmon/Steelhead, then it's closed.

Not a fly rod, but my spoon/spinner rod is a X11 baitcaster. Good rod for the money, and it's taken a lot of abuse.
