I use SA absolute flat mono. A 3 turn sugeons coated in a little knot sense is pretty small.

Most of my euro-nymphing is on the Deschutes, and I wouldn't want that as my "reel" if I hook an 18" redband on 6 or 7x.

Devin's video is the way to go. A euro nymphing action rod helps keep the fish pinned as well.

You can fish spoons/spinners/colorado blades with them, with or without a bobber. It's way better than a flyrod for fishing nymphs under a bobber. You can cover a lot more water.

FYI - Berry's Bait and Tackle and Sea Run up in BC still sell Sage gear rods, at least as of a few years ago. Some other shops might sell them as well. I wouldn't call them cheap, but you can get a custom wrapped sage blank for the cost of a mid-range fly rod.

It was the original "spinning" reel, before the Mitchell. If you didn't want to use a baitcaster or a fly rod, it was your other main option. It wasn't just used with a bobber, people threw spoons and other lures with it. I'm sure the main reason it fell out of favor was it's 1:1 retrieval rate.

They used to have one, for the Euro/UK market, a hover/int. Their salmon/steelhead lineup has suffered since the ownership change. Could be manufacturing issues, or maybe nobody in Colorado fishes for steelhead. Don't know what the deal is, nobody has stepped forward to set the record straight...

I don't really get it. If you are using 10 or 12 feet of full t-material, the butt end of the sink tip pulls the tip of the floating skagit head down anyway, so it seems like the same effect. Feels like one of those things that was dreamed up to create another SKU or had too much time to think...
