Agree. The majority of the fresh April Sol Duc fish were smallish hens of 5-7 lbs. Did see what I'd consider a true Spring Buck on June 1st one year, the Duc was low & clear as we dropped into a big long crystal clear pool it was laying right at the head & we spotted each other at the same...

My April's were mostly on the Sol Duc in the Lower runs. We were by-catching down running rebrite hens as we where throwing bait in those days... mid 1990's -2k Spent time on Queets & upper Quinault too

In my limited experience the fresh incoming April Steelhead were always on the smaller size & usually hens. Same for you?

The hybrid. In all honesty it was a Rainshadow RX7 1143 built as a coho spin rod, busted the tip & Kerry B found a 8 weight tip that was a perfect match. Then l had the rods original builder move the guides onto the new section. What a hassle, not the recommended route 😜

Sold that reel, still have the rod in it's sock. If you want a backup let me know, I'll be over your way in June

I don't have that much patience. But funny story. I fished Spring Kings on the OP with a buddy who would use some unorthodox methods. He would find a pool with a decent number of them and cast out a Aerofly on a typical drift fishing set up with a 3 foot leader, let it settle to the bottom then...

Holy cow, what a bird list! I'd paddle my boat across lower Hampton & shove into the slot on upper lake for my fun. Nice fish on those Seep lakes in March for sure
