    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

Middle age… for a tortoise. I think the lesson is to keep moving but take it slow. I can be spotted on the freeway.

    Ask the Camp Chef

That’s impressive Jerry! And LBL/Emily too. I can manage 4 plus one flat bottom on a burner. I don’t guide, but enjoy the process and contribution to a camp of friends. Everyone steps up in some way.

    Ask the Camp Chef

Yes, I’ve used the canned cherry filling along with a chocolate cake mix and a can of coke. At your suggestion and with a bit of google sleuthing I just found Cascade Manufacturing (here in Seattle) makes Popper trivets for a 12” DO. This will be a surprise for my camp pals this Spring, probably...

    Ask the Camp Chef

I’ve never made biscuits or rolls, so something to try. I have made a similar “Mountain Man” breakfast, and it brought smiles from guys in camp. Probably the most fun thing for me was dump cake or cobbler. As you’re just dumping the 3 ingredients into the DO, your friends are worried that maybe...

    Ask the Camp Chef

Hey Jerry, I’ve never been on one of your trips, but it’s surprising you ever get out on the water ;-). Twenty years back (+-) I got fairly deep into DO cooking. Let me preface by mentioning that I cooked on fishing boats (Seiners) in the early 70s, and have continued to cook pretty much every...

    Seeking Hawaii advice

Each island has its own personality. I have enjoyed stays on the big island Kona side (resort) and various locations on Maui (Lahaina side). Far and away though “home” for me is Kauai Island, Waimea Plantation Cottages, on the South side. You’ll never find a more serene place to spend time. It...

Asking for thoughts on the C & F Fly Threaders

I had one but never used it. My eyes and nerves were fine then. I sent it to OMJ some years back as he was bitching about the shakes.

Lou was a complicated guy, no doubt. If I had to guess I’d say he was genius level but then compromised by culture norms that he couldn’t quite shake. Some guys are closer to the ceiling.

Well I got it. A night on cocaine: $600, and gone tomorrow. A new (decent) fly rod: $600, happiness for years. Make up your own.

    Sitka Labor Day weekend

Always liked Sitka. Interesting that every town in SE Ak has its own distinct personality. Back in the 70s Sitka folks would smile and wave like they meant it. Hope that’s still true.

SOLD Simms Challenger 7" Deck Boots - Size 13 - Slate

Free bump. Handy boots. I’d be interested but have some nearly identical Grundens. G’luck. Wet weather sneakers.

Yeah, I’m recalling a Datenight Mushroom, but it’s been a while and I was drinking.

    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

Would agree with KG. In the grocery a while back it was “Ain’t no way to treat a lady” (Helen Reddy). Not a terrible song but it repeats endlessly and was stuck in my head for days. Fuck. There it is again. Thanks guys, but not every idea is a good one.

    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

Google David Sedaris Big Boy story. I won’t print it or copy a video here because it’s about 6 minutes long. Possibly the funniest story I ever heard (on NPR some years back). Well here’s a link to read: https://nowcomment.com/documents/202543 As some here know, he tells stories well, with...

    Which Weber kettle grill?

I’ll just add that the small Weber “Go Anywhere” gas grill does a credible job car camping. I duct taped up the box to last and keep it in. Handy for steaks and pre(partially) cooked potatoes, or whatever you like.

    Which Weber kettle grill?

I’ve had all sizes including the California, but not a Texas. Not sure those big ones are even made anymore. Currently I have the Performer with charcoal bin. Like it a lot. A table is a nice feature and worth it if you can afford it. But, if money is tight go for the 22” but absolutely opt for...
